JetBlue, I think your jumping the gun with this talk of firing Mangini. I realize you're frustrated, but the guy is coming off of a 10-6 season. He should certainly be held accountable for this poor start, but I don't think a 1-5 start is worthy of being fired.

Guess you all want Herm back?

I can't believe all the "fans" here who are now calling for Manginis head. He took a mess of a team to the playoffs, a mess created by Herm and Boobway, and now he sucks because we lost a few games? I would like to see Clemens play as well but can we just trust our coach, you know, the one whose praises you all sang last year? This is one of the things that makes me embarrassed to be a Jets fan sometimes, you all are so easy to get rid of the coach after 6 games. Now I know why Belichick didn't want our job, if he went 5-11 his first year and started 0-2 his 2nd, you all would have wanted him fired. NE stuck with him and how has that worked out for them? Guess they knew something you "fans" don't with our team.

That's the kind of the feeling I'm getting. Could a terrible game by the Bengals propel Chad to two more starts???? Could a couple of special teams TDs give Chad two more weeks after that...............It could just keep going. Scary.

The problem is that to you Herm sucked, Bradway sucked, and Mangini sucks -- and I assume that youd fire Lovie Smith, S. Peyton (sp) and Marvin Lewis.

I do not think that the CS has done a particularly good job -- its like Schottenheimer is channeling Joe Walton or something -- but I think its pretty pre mature and foolish to brand them a failure.

I always say that if Cowher coached in NY -- he would have never had any opportunity to win a super bowl -- hed have been out long before that.

I would hope the team would play hard. Hell, there are only 16 games and the players' jobs are on the line almost every week.

Are you really using the wind as an excuse? Please tell me you are joking.

Lovie Smith? No, he got to the Super Bowl last season with Rex Grossman at QB. If he winds up 3-13 I'd certainly consider it though.

Sean Payton? If he goes 3-13 he's out the door in my book because the Saints are a historically terrible team that is not going to recover easily from that kind of result.

Marvin Lewis? Hell, I'd fire Marvin Lewis if he went 8-8 this year. He was hired to come in here and create a good defensive atmosphere for a franchise whose defense has been bad for half a generation. So far their defense is still bad under him and that's the thing that's holding them back. The man is going 8-8 with Carson Palmer at QB and Rudi Johnson at TB and a group of good to great receivers. He has failed to build a defense, which is critical to playoff success in the NFL and so he should be fired.

When I looked out the window this morning I knew we couldn't pass down field. When the flag is standing straight out Chad is having a bad game.

I've been thinking a lot about this. I do think that Eric Mangini could be an excellent head coach. I also think that he isn't one today. I look at his expressions when things are going poorly and I read: disappointment, confusion, absence of new ideas. And, I'm going to say this at this risk of taking it on the chin - he looks immature. Just my take.

But let's say I'm right. If I read that, you'd have to assume that some of the players read that. And, if some of the players read that, there's nothing outside of a coaching change that will correct that impression.

The good thing for Mangini is that, as I say from the start, I think he could be an excellent coach. I'd rather get rid of some of the mediocre talent we have on the team than bring in another new coach. Keep Mangini - Abandon mediocre talent. Shall I list them all?

I love this thread. I particualrly love the part where someone said no adjustments were made today at halftime........... rotflmao.

Please keep up these fine intelligent threads they make my day.

This team is not good, I know a huge statement there. It also happens to be a starting QB away from 4-2 and not 1-5. Kind of find it hard to contemplate the complete over reaction. Well not really............... I will stop before this post questions the gray matter of some.

Of course, but can they hang with the Bills? The Jets game at Miami could very well be this year's blunder bowl.

This is so true, for crying out loud, its so clear we could have a scary vertical passing game with KC. The switch should have been made weeks ago.

We don't have a great team but we are definately better than 1-5. Mangini continually makes bad decisions and it has cost us this season. He continues to start an inferior quarterback. He under utilized Thomas Jones until today. He ignores Vilmas strength by using the 3-4. Today the team decides to try and throw against Sheldon Brown, meanwhile there was a backup starting on the other side. I just don't get what hes trying to do here.

I buy into that, and I think that Mangini's immaturity as a HC, because of his age and experience, wouldn't be as big of an issue, but we have very little veteran leadership...

Before last season, he got rid of Mawae, and before this season he got rid of Kendall.... As controversial as they may have been with the media, they were older, tougher, veterans who could, in bad times, give this young team some direction....

Now our oldest veterans are just around 30, all with very little meaningful experience....

Our guys who are most likely to be veteran leaders, because of age and experience, Pennington, Barton, and Dyson, are all playing for their jobs.... How can someone who is on the verge of being replaced by a 1st or 2nd year player (Clemens, Harris, and Revis, respectively) garner enough respect from the entire team to truly have them buy into what they say?

They can't.... We've got a few washed up old vets we brought in, but they aren't adding much to the team.... Shaun Ellis seems like the only reasonable leader on our team, and he's never been a vocal guy...

So we're stuck with a new face as our leader on offense, in Jones.... Apparently he pulled to OL together this week and gave them shit about their run blocking... Good! There's a little leadership, but we don;t have enough of that...

On D, we've got Vilma, who isn't old enough, or, in this system, productive enough, IMO, to really demand the respect of all the other guys....

Leadership is a big part of football, and we are SORELY lacking..

One of the drawbacks, I suppose, of having a very young CS.....

After reading the initial post of this thread, I instantly became enraged, thoughts of posting things about how juvenile, fair weathered, and pathetic Jets' fans were entered my mind. Then I thought about it for a second, and decided I wouldn't generalize. One mans opinion, however ill-informed and grossly splayed out, is just that, one mans opinion. But the irrationality of it all is just repulsive. I would go point by point with the OP on the many areas where he not only completely misses the mark, but should also turn in his fan of the NFL (and more specifically Jets) badge, and just call it a lifetime. But that would be an exercise in futility. And I have better things to do with my time... like eating broken glass for example.

I don't think the owners want to make another coaching change. I think Mangini realizes that and will coach his way which appears to be to give Chad full control of the team for the remaining games. Maybe he is evaluating players to be traded or moved. I'm not sure what his motivation is but I agree it doesn't seem to be working

WOW this is awesome. Seriously an awesome post.

Can I ask for a favor?

Would you let me use this for every stupid and useless post or thread that is going to be started on this site for the next week. I of course will quote you and give you full props for it.

the same mess of a team that made it to the playoffs 3 out of 5 years. the team Mangini took over was hardly a mess, t had been quite successfull before one truly horrific season plagued by injuries, a new offensive coordinator, and a lackadasical attitude bred from the head coach. the Jets winning ten games last season wasn't a shock, they did so two season s prior, so the groundwork for such a season was in place. this season, on the other hand, is a true mess.
I love how you attempt to portray the thread as irrational, and then spew even bigger irrational (and egotistical) nonsense like turning in your Jets card. that doesn't even mean anything, exept if you believe that if someone approaches football differently than you they somehow aren't a true fan. get real and get over yourself.

if you have something so logical to say, do so. the fact that you admit you couldn't for being irate shows that you don't, you are just as emotional as the rest of us. welcome to the club, hypocrite.

I agree he shouldn't be fired. He is coaching as if he has won a few SBs and has alot of currency such as Torre does which is not the case. I think he needs to listen to some of his critics and stop being so intractable. As for your claim he was a big reason why we may the playoffs I would say the prime reason we made the playoffs was the cream puff schedule.
