The Patriots since Bellicheck took over have never had to shop for a franchise QB though. They thought Bledsoe was their guy and then hit the lottery with Brady. It is impossible to say what they would do if they were in the same situation that the Jets are currently in.
Forget DeWayne.... How about drafting Mario Williams at #4 and making a trade involving Bryan Thomas?
You won't get much for him! He is a great backup(but getting paid first round starter money!) He might be decent in the 3-4 after gaining some weight.
Robertson gets one year to prove he fits in the new offense. There's simply too much potential there to NOT give him the chance. That said, I would still trade him if a decent offer came around. In my best guestimation, Dewayne will platoon with Kimo in the 3-4, and will be the primary 3T whenever we go into the 4-3. 3-4 - Ellis/Thomas, Puoha/Draft Pick, Kimo/Robertson 4-3 - Ellis, Robertson, Kimo/Puoha, Thomas
Did the Pats hit the lottery? You bet. Are great QB's taken in the first two slots of the draft. Of course. But if past is prologue, you can find your QB of the future just as easily down the board as at the top. Marino (bottom 1/3 of 1983 draft). Montana (3rd rd of 1979 draft). Favre (must we remember, one pick before the Jets in 1991's 2nd Rd.). They are extreme examples, I know, but you get my point. If we had the luxury to spend #29 or our #2 on moving up, that's one thing. But we don't. God forbid I watch another game with that patchwork O-line in front of our QB! And It's not as though our only alternative is throwing Kevin Eakin or Kliff Kingsbury out there in 2006. Penny should be healthier. Ramsey has started ~25-35 games in this league. Bollinger has played nearly a full season. I'm not saying we have our quarterback of the future on our roster today, but I just don't think we need to spend a boatload to find one now. If Leinart fell to #4, I wouldn't be opposed to picking him. But Cutler might be there as well, which doesn't seem like a huge dropoff IMO. But who am I? Just a guy who spends way too much time thinking about, reading about and watching the Jets.
I was going to place a disclaimer at the end of that post explaining that it was sarcasm. I thought it was so obvious that I wouldn't need to though. My mistake.
HAHAHA..ok so instead...y dont we just trade Doug Jolley for the #1 pick and Pouha for Randy Moss...that works right??
Abraham : $ $ $ John Abraham's contract with the Falcons will be for six years and $45 million. Abraham gets $13.5 million to sign and $25.5 million over the first three years of the contract. This sets the bar for a top-level pass rusher in his mid-20's. The Seahawks reportedly offered more money in the end, but Abraham wanted to play for the Falcons. I'm not. The guy was a tool and he hated the media in NY, just like every other player who cannot stay healthy and consistent.
Yeah thats all he really does care about....the difference was probably negligible so he decided to go closer to ome. Even though he is a dick and stuff I am still happy for him and will cheer for him to do well.
The Seattle contract was more money towards the end of the deal, so he would have had to actually play, and play well to earn it. In Atlanta, he gets almost 30 million in the first 3 years. Ellis
I think Atlanta overpaid for Abe, both in what they gave up and what his contract is worth. Like one article said, they'd better hope they're playing ahead in most games next season because Abe is best when inserted on 3rd and long as a rusher. If Atlanta falls behind and they're getting the ball run down their throats, Abe is an awfully expensive guy to have sitting on the bench watching his teammates try to stuff the run without him. Good luck, Atlanta.
