Curtis Martin won the rushing title. Did he have a rocket arm back then? Did teams put 8 in the box b/c they knew he couldn't throw the ball deep and nullify our running game? No. Yes, Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are not Curtis Martin. I know that, so don't waste your time pointing that out. The fact is, however, that they aren't THAT much worse that our running game this year should be so horrendous. I think we are being unfair to Chad when we blame the running game problems ENTIRELY on him.
So there is still one of you left...Congratulations. Apparently you and Eric Mangini are the only two people left that think Chad should be starting for the New York Jets. You just may be able to coach in the NFL someday. P.S. check out how many surgeries chad had on his arm prior to the years in which curt got the titles.
teams know a lot better how to defend against chad, and his arm is a lot weaker due to his arm surgeries, he had about equal arm strength to drew brees before his surgeries, very adaquate and our oline was more experienced, and we didnt run stupid ass stretch plays that dont work and we had either richioe anderson or sowell to keep a linebacker in check for pass routes, to compare the 2 teams is unfair, different personell and coaching, and a diff arm on our qb
Personally I think that the problems are for the most part not Chads fault. The defense is absolutely terrible in almost every stat. They are giving up an average of 127 yards a game. But at this point, I do believe a change needs to be made. Starting Clemens would make sense smiply because we need to see what we have in him before the draft. Giving him vauluable time behind center when the season is lost (maybe in 1 or 2 weeks) just makes sense to me. Chad's arm is a liability when he does not play mistake free football (which in my view is a lot to ask from any player in the NFL) and the defense of the 2007 Jets (not really the secondary but the LBs and the NT) are not playing even remotely on the level that a team needs to succeed. Especially with a QB who needs specific variables to fall into place in order to win games.
back then we had a deep threat with our play action and back then Chad had more zip on his ball. After two shoulder surgeries you can't expect his arm to be the same it use to be. Look at college plays that Chad made, the ball had a lot more zip and lift back then, then now. Anytime you get surgery your body won't be the same and let alone after two shoulder surgeries. Same thing in baseball afta a power pitcher has shoulder surgery he never ends up throwing as hard as he use to.
No we are not. If everything, I mean everything is happening within a 5- to 15 yard radius of the Line of scrimmage how can the run game find any light. This is why the play action is so key. If an opposing team wants to stack the line to prevent the run then you either have man to man or the chance for someone to be free by them selves. One dimensional! That is why his poor play has affected the run game.
The same Martin who many on the board were complaining was done and needed to be traded away. The funny thing is that every year it is someone's turn to put their head in the noose and be flogged by the fanbase. Congrats Penny, deservedly or not, you're it.
Back than we ran a two Wide set with the TE never leaving the LOS we matched up to run the ball against 8 in the box. We essentially gave up Moss for Curtis. We ranked 22nd in passing yards and 22nd in passing TD's that year. Good running teams run against 8 in the box, good offensive teams today need to run and pass to be effective. The league has changed the rules to favor the passing game and you need to send 3 and 4 WR sets out or 3 and a TE you can't just match up to run the ball all game and be effective anymore.
It's obvious to anyone who objectively watches the games that it's not all Chad's fault, those tha need a scapegoat will blame everything on Chad w/o a running game and w/ such a horrible D it's hard to win. Chad has made game changing mistakes the last 2 weeks and deserves his big share of the blame for the 4th qtr messes but the rality is w/ a running game and/or better defensive play we wouldn't have been in those situations.
Doesn't matter, because even if we fix everything and become a solid team, to win a Super Bowl there will come a time where we need Chad to go down the field from his own 20 and get to the opponents 33 yard line in 1 minute. Do you think Chad will be able to do that?....and I'm not being a wise guy. I'm asking you seriously.
Ive have been one of the Chad supporters the whole time but i am just about done...All i can honestly say is that if Trent Edwards can lead the Bills to almost knock off the cowboys (yes i know they had 5 int's), KC should get his shot sometime VERY soon. I mean DB's just know where the ball is going.. Between Ross and Madison jumping routes you gotta have the arm to get it in there..And iuf your gonna throw a fade to the endzone lets make sure it first makes it to the endzone and second gives your guy a fair chance on the ball..
Actually Chad is pretty good on the fade throws. He's thrown like 3 TDs on them the last couple of weeks. Too bad they can't all be fade throws. Like everybody says. It's the out throws. If you can't make those, you can't lead your team down the field with limited time and timeouts.
yea but think about how many poor fade passes he made that got picked or Coles or COtch were forced to make saving plays.. I gotta get Chad's red zone numbers this year..i knwo there not what they used to be
Did you even watch that game? Trent Edwards didn't almost lead the Bills to beat the Cowboys, the Bills defense/ST did, their offense only scored one field goal.
I love Martin and don't want to take anything away from him but he got alot of extra yards that year with draws on 3rd and long. 3rd and 15 he'd run it for 12 adding to his yard total because Chad didnt have the arm to throw it downfield.
I believe Chad should be starting for the Jets. Its not his fault they lost the games they lost this year. Maybe 1. Get over it people. KC isn't going to come in and the jets automatically win every game. Chad is the better QB. Its not about QB. QB isn't the problem with the Jets get with it. Learn the game.
I keep hearing from some Chad supporters about the people who are blaming ALL of the offensive problems ENTIRELY on Pennington, yet I don't know that I've ever seen a post that actually says that. Of course, claiming that people say things that they really don't is a popular strategy among some people on this board to avoid addressing what was actually said. Someone should start a poll asking "Do you think all of the Jets' offensive troubles are entirely Chad Pennington's fault?". I'd be surprised if there was one "Yes" vote, and if there was, those people could deservedly be called clueless. Until that happens, however, these sorts of threads are just IMO a waste of time.
I can agree with you that are team is shabby in all departments (Except maybe special teams) But It cannot be detracted nor denied that 3 Games have been killed by interceptions. (This includeds Kellen) I think thats where all the back and forth from some posters comes from. One says its all Chad the other Defends ,Its the defense not stopping anyone. Then you have those that say we cant run the ball because they stack the line not fearing a 5 yard Pennington pass. it goes on and on . This will and has happened before , when we're loosing !
