Obviously, fans wanting Kellen to start is a landslide.' But who do you think Mangini WILL start next week? I have this gnawing feeling that Mangini is going to go with Chad despite the obvious decline in Chad's ability this year. So my "VOTE" is for Chad as the starter, though I hope Mangini when he watches the film sees what we all saw today. A QB who is done and should never start again.
He has to start Kellen Clemens or he is risking starting his own deathwatch. Anybody who thinks anybody in the current regime is likely to survive a 3-13 does not understand what the realities here are. It will be a longshot for the current regime to remain in place if the Jets collapse into a laughingstock.
This is the first week I am calling for Clemens -- have a gut feeling that Mangini will see it the same way , this is the right time. If it is not this week - it wont be at Ciny , so it will be the Home game against the Bills (start of 3 straight at home to get him started)
Mangina will start Chad next week if for no other reason than to prove he doesn't listen to anyone but himself. The only way Clemens starts is if there's some mysterious "injury" to Chad that somehow manifests itself this week.
I have to agree. I think Mangini will go with Chad unfortunately. I just hope Mangini has the stones to bench him if he continues to play the way he has. A change must be made.
This is also my first week asking for Clemens. Chad's three INT's were so horrible that he doesn't deserve another game. Trade him to the Bears. I still don't understand how he can throw it 1 mile into the air like that and not know there is a damn good chance it will be intercepted.
I think you're under estimating the commitment to Mangini by Johnson. This team has a lot of issues and over all the young players that Mangini and Tanny have brought in are playing very well. If they weren't you have an argument but they are. If Clemens is brought up to speed and turns into a real stud QB this regime in two years will have done an incredible job in starting to rebuild this team as a true elite team. Clemens may well be the X factor but that may be why they don't start him until after the bye. They want to be sure with this guy and bring him along right. Being a little conservative while pissing off some fans probably doesn't make much of a difference. Now based on what we saw against Baltimore he looks like a guy who can handle a little adversity and it might be good for him. Suppose they do start him next week before we are eliminated and he sucks? Than what? That's not my argument but I think it's the debate in Hempstead.
Mangini is ruining his own reputation by using Chad as starter. Chad has been throwing the ball as if he doesn't think the defense exists. It's time for Mangini to end this charade. I didn't believe it before, but after last week, I realized that Chad is not a starter. He is a very good back-up, and that is what he should be right now. No, Mangini is not a Mangenius - I used to think that too - but he is smart enough to know that enough is enough. As well, the season is not over. We play three crappy teams in a row, and if Kellen can do a decent job, then maybe by the end of these three games, we'll have three wins and our defese will have gotten to a point where they can actually play. Of course, this is all a longshot, but if this team has any chance, it has to be with another qb. I say Mangini makes the change, and I think, after today, Chad would agree. Sorry Chad
It's not beyond me as a long time Jets fan to see them trade Clemens for a first next year and resign Chad for another 5 years, but yes I think it's when not if.
Chad sucks now. Starting him because you are afraid that Clemens might suck is like hiding under a pile of coats in the corner and hoping it all goes away. Woody essentially fired Herm and Bradway, although Herm was on the way out anyway and Bradway shifted jobs, because he was really upset about 4-12 in 2005 and could not find anybody who would stand up and be accountable. Who is going to stand up in Hempstead and say "It's my fault, I caused this collapse this year"? Unless somebody stands up and says that he's going to chop a lot of heads at the end of the year if things continue as they have been going.
That is nuts! I understand loyalty, but what about loyalty to the rest of the team that has to sit and watch Chad's horrific mistakes?! Chad: "Run the route, and the ball will be there waiting for you. Don't worry, if there is a defender waiting for the ball."
He's not ever going to be "ready" to start in the NFL. He's either an NFL caliber QB or he is not. The most misunderstood concept in the NFL is that ANY player needs more than a training camp to be ready to play. That doesn't mean that players don't have growing pains when they get the chance and sometimes do the two steps forward, one step back routine. But basically they can either play in the NFL or they can't. The Jets could sit Clemens for 3 years and he'd be no better prepared to actually *play* than if they started him next week. He might know a whole lot more about how the game works but if he can't play it wouldn't matter and if he can play he doesn't need to learn all that knowledge slowly on the bench instead of fast on the field. The Jets are going to be bad this year regardless of who is the QB. In that scenario I want Clemens to learn fast on the field and I want the Jets to learn fast whether or not he is an NFL QB.
who WILL mangini start next week? or who SHOULD mangini start next week. because we all know, pennington will be starting, although he shouldn't.
I don't disagree with you but that doesn't mean that the HC and OC don't have a plan that differs from what we think and are going to stick with it and it doesn't mean they're wrong.
Every week that Mangnini doesn't start Clemens from here on out, he'll lose the support of more and more of the fan base and media. Eventually (if he hasn't lost it already) it'll cost him the support of the team itself. Todays game was embarrassing.
