It is nonsense to believe you can build through the draft as long as there is free agency. The mere fact they say it means they don't know what they're doing. The Jets, of all teams, should know they can not and will not ever keep their free agents. They never have and never will. Trying to build through the draft means only that you don't want to spend any money ever and could care less about winning.
Look at the rosters of the Patriots (prior to this year) and the Colts. They built those teams through the draft for the most part. These are the two best teams in football, so please, don't dismiss the notion of building through the draft in the free agent era as naive. We let a lot of big names go in the past, but this is a new regime that has already resigned a couple of players ahead of time before they had an opportunity to become free agents. Give them a chance. As for the Kendall situation, he forced that move and didn't give us much of a choice, though I was in the pay him the damn million camp before he got out of control. To say they "could care less" about winning, and I assume you meant "couldn't care less", is just sour apples causing you to make stupid statements. This is an NFL franchise, they are in it to win it.
The Patriots? Who have either brought in free agents or made trades every year since they became successful? The Colts have pretty much built through the draft but they had somebody who could spot talent a mile away.
edit..you're right on that. Look at how the Patriots have stocked draft picks, made trades and brought in free agents. Yeah, it can be done but this team isn't doing it. Not to mention that players want to stay with winning teams and leave losing teams as fast as they can. Nobody has lost longer then the Jets. So before making comparisons between us and them think about how different these franchises are.
That's totally wrong. If one "could care less" then they actually do care right now and would have to make a conscious effort to actually care less. If a person "could not care less", then they are already without any care at all over the issue at hand, and it is impossible for them to reduce the amount of care.
Who said I was making any comparisons? I pointed out two examples of franchises in the free agent era that built their teams through the draft. You said it was "nonsense to believe you can build through the draft", so I pointed out two very recent examples of teams that just so happen to be the two best teams. If that's the model the FO wants to follow, I'll buy in.
One lucked out with Brady and won right away. The other had the #1 pick and took Manning and Harrison. They were already teams that people wanted to stay with and go to. If we had that type of team, I would agree. Our players want to get out of dodge as quick as they can and that's why it will never work here.
The team doesn't begin and end at the QB position, or with one receiver. From the inside out those teams were built through the draft. Look at their offensive and defensive lines. Having Tom Brady and Peyton Manning is definitely a big part of their success, no doubt. It goes further than that, and it wasn't built in one season. It seems like you're being negative for the sake of being negative. That's easy to do when we're 1-3. All I'm saying is give the new front office a little more time to implement their plan and build the team the way they want to. At least they're trying to do it the way the best teams did it.
It's hard to put on a show at all when your on the bench and the scat back is getting the meaningful carries...
Use him or lose him. He will be another waste of a player the Jets got and stop blaming the OL for everything. We will be talking about the same shit next week..
Chad is lucky to have Coles and Cotch! Randy Moss would not sacrifice his body like our two recievers, not would he fight for extra yards like them. He would already be slacking because Chad can't get him the ball where he excels...Deep And as far as him and Chad in college, that was 2 shoulder surgeries ago.
Why do you have to be negative about everything? Jones was the best move we made this offseason, and we got him for like nothing. And WTF is with the Revis bashing?? "He may be great but so what? He isn't going to win any games for us and after last week and the way people are throwing in his direction he may end up losing some." WTF is that supposed to mean?! So what if he's great?! You're such a frickin idiot.
The O-Line couldn't push back a line of 12 year old girls playing red rover. seriously....Thomas Jones should once in awhile make plays when there not there like every great running back but he isn't working with much.
haha yup...but it coincides with our record of course. If we did what we were suppose to do, by winning in Buffalo, we would be on a high horse talking about this being the game that gets us back on track, by going 3-2, with the upcoming schedule. Now, with the loss and sitting at 1-3, it's a "this really phucking sucks and we need to do something" attitude until we win a solid game. I know the thread went into a nice sidetrack with the draft / free agency, and you can only talk about TJ getting more carries so much, but I agee; there is a great back in TJ that maybe we're aren't only not utilizing, but unable to. I'm not going to get into a whole O Line discussion, because we know we're always talking about that, but it doesn't help when the gap he's hitting is clogged and he's forced outside to meet with waiting LB's at the line. I love Chad and I think he still is the leader on this team, but it's become a reality that the vertical game we don't have is hurting us across the board. I know the D is hurting a bit, and I think Harris is a great addition to where we're headed in the 3-4, but they also need more than a series or two to rest up. Plus let's not forget that when we needed them to, they came through to get the ball back for us to make a drive (Baltimore & Buffalo). We better phucking win tomorrow...
