Not that it surprises anyone but the jets do not match up very well sunday. Not talking about stats at all but referring to talent at positions, such as the off and def line. i have always admired the giants for their ability to build the trenches. they have always drafted well along the lines (aside from cedric jones and i am sure a few others) if you compare the jets line picks with the giants over the last 10-15 years i am sure the jints come out way way ahead. forget the QB, WR, RB and TE - its the lines that will dictate the game and from a talent standpoint its not even close. the only position i give us an edge is center (a slight edge but not flaming mangold just telling it like it is) the rest of the OL and entire DL has a big talent gap - against us. gonna be in tune to the line of scrimmage and really watch ferguson and mangold - this will be a mammoth test for those guys. on the other side, gonna watch coleman and piouha to see if they can generate some havoc. i expect the jets to blitz a bit more than we have seen - hopefully rattling manning - though i do worry about their receivers - we are very prone to the big play sunday - more so than prior games against the ravens and bills. best jil
I agree, we do not match up well against them at all. Great Defensive End duo in Strahan and Umenyiora. Secondary has been weak, but with their tremendous pressure, I don't think it matters. I don't think we will be able to block them well enough. Thomas Jones SHOULD do well, but he was supposed to do well last week too. Chad will do better...he rarely has back to back poor performances. I think we lose in a close battle 21-17
The Jets really don't match-up well against any teams' lines right now. Sure, some match-ups will be worse, like the Giants with two good edge rushers. (I am actually more concerned about Strahan-Clement than Osi-D'Brick).
Jil's perception is spot on and I think we're 1-4 by Sunday night. In fact, I think this has the potential of being a very embarassing game as well. At best, it'll become the catalyst for serious personnel change. Brandon Jacobs, at 260 lbs, behind a decent O-line and being spelled by the "small" Ward at 228 lbs, will absolutely trample our DEF at will. I'm predicting catastrophy, in fact, especially if they score early, take a substantial lead and can sit on the run and run out the clock. This will open up the Eli-Burress Show, which will probably eclipse the Brady-Moss Show of Game One, especially since SS Eric Coleman has a "head injury" and, in this day-and-age of concussion-watch, it's unlikely he'll be in the game. Defensively, coming off the NFL record-setting 12 sacks against the Eagles, the Giants will be so pumped to prove that's not a fluke that even a flak jacket, steel pot and an M-16 wouldn't protect Pennington. I think we're going to revisit "Chinese Firedrill Mode," which has also been widely known as "Keystone Cops Syndrome," that's if Pennington even remains healthy enough long enough for us to witness it. Our lack of addressing the beef on both sides of the LOS comes home to roost this Sunday.
That is a subtle point but a very good one. Not to change the subject when you do one thing well it hides your other weaknesses. Problem with the Jets this year is they do nothing well. If our special teams were their usual good selves, we would score more becuase the offense would have a short field and so on... I hope they get something right this Sunday.
There's a very slight chance for us to win on Sunday. Here's how it has to happen, IMO: 1) We need to blitz early and often. Manning's one weakness is glaring: he makes colossal mistakes when pressured. We need to aggressively pursue INTs when he does get the ball off, and pounce on every pass. I'm somewhat optimistic of Revis' chances against Burress, that's if we even get to see Eli pass very often. But he's such a huge target. We have to hope Burress slacks off and quits on some of his routes, which he's been known to do, especially after having "proven himself" this week against their arch enemy, the Eagles. Handcuff David Barrett to the radiator pipes in the basement of Giants Stadium and don't unlock them until the game is over. 3) Stopping the run. Well, I don't think we can. So I think we have to live with that on Sunday and make them earn all their points the hard way, by grinding them out slowly, then getting the ball back. 3) Offensively, we can't play a conservative game. We either go down in flames or win, period. That includes not sitting on any leads, if we do happen to find ourselves in that unlikely position and going for it on 4th and whatever many times. Every trick in the basket has to come out... use Brad Smith and combinations of off-the-wall plays to stymie the Giants. Get the ball to Leon more often... he's a game-breaker. Use another set of handcuffs on Justin McCareins, but this time, leave him locked to the steam pipes in the basement of Giants Stadium indefinitely. 4) Special Teams has a chance against the Giants. Take more chances than usual with STs. An unexpected on-sides kick might be in order too. Look for Leon to have several good returns. 5) Insert Clemens at the start, not after we're in the hole by 27 points in the 4th quarter, but we all know that's not going to happen.
If u think the Osi/Strahan combo is scary, wait till you see the passing down package of Osi and Strahan at DE with Tuck and Kiwi at DT. That front 4 is nuts. Justin Tuck has outperformed Strahan on the line this year. If it wasnt for Osi's ridiculous performance against the Eagles, I wouldve said Tuck is the g-mens best d-linemen this year.
The Giants create matchup problems for a lot of teams, they are very talented on both sides of the field. The Giants also self destruct more than any team in football and their FG kicking is atrocious. This could be a game where we do almost nothing on either side of the ball and are in it right to the end. Nuge could be a huge factor in this one.
Giants suck , they got lucky sunday night that wont happen again , the giants cant stop any one on defense if our line can play good we'll win.
I'm thinking if we have any chance at all it's with STs... relying on Nugent and maybe Leon to run it back. Sad though, when that's what you're thinking. The Giants do self-destruct and the key is to getting Manning to go into one of his "Woe-Is-Me" funks by getting a pick or two. They're also prone to penalties up the whazoo. But, like I say, if they get ahead by any kind of decent margin, we're screwed, because it'll be doses of Brandon Jacobs all 2nd half, and our defense is just not stout enough to take that kind of punishment late in the game.
I only see the defense as the mis-match. The offense stinks up the joint just as good as we do from time to time. The running back's are about equal (Baring they only get 12 carries) The passing game becomes the hinge pin for the rest of our offense , It wont be the other way around because we all know they will stack the line not fearing a Long bomb. Maybe that will be there undooing and we get some production down feild this week. Jets win 28-16
