NFL thinking says, the longer the pass, the greater both the risk and reward are. Shorter passes are less risky, also less rewarding, and runs further down the spectrum. But for the Jets with Coles and Cotchery, the long pass odds improve dramatically and here's why: 1) With these outstanding receivers, even one of Chad's luft-balloons has a chance of being pulled down by the receivers. 2) Because of the talent and reputation of our receivers, defenders are more likely to hold or interfere for fear of being beaten out by C and C on a jump ball. Every week you see QBs throwing balls that have no chance of connecting with their receiver and they get "saved" by a PI penalty from the zebras. 3) As all the local scribes have mentioned in today's articles, once defenders have felt the threat of the long pass, they will always play softer on the short routes. Unless Pennington is injured, there's no reason why he shouldn't be able to launch on of his darts 50 yards down the field. I think he may be injured. At the start of last year, we saw him firing the ball with more authority vs the Titans, and throwing long accurate rainbows to McCareins vs Detroit and other teams. He's not throwing the same way this year, and they really haven't attempted one long pass with him. He' definitely hurt--some say his ankle, but I think the shoulder's acting up. If we don't see a few long throws this week, it's time to shut him down and give Clemens a chance.
I really would love to know how Coles and Cotchery really thinks. They need to speak out, but everyone is to damn nice on this team and thats why nothing changes. If he is hurt, set him down. They don't see this in practice during the week?
noodle arm couldn't throw 50 yards on his best day.. somewhere in the 40's is about the max and those babies are quacking all the way there....
i saw someone who said they wonder what they really think. i can tell you. "this is ridiculous were both fast and capable recievers who battle for the ball, throw it to us deeper. im sick of getting comatosed off of penny's floaters"
This is a tuff one , Chad has the prerogative a checking out of plays called in from the side line from Shotty so can we really say that Deep patterns have been called that Penny has checked out of .(The unknown) All I know and continuously complain about is dink and dunk type game plans. Different teams do employ this strategy but it’s applied against teams with a propensity to be weak against these kinds of plays. We do it as a play calling philosophy and game plan against teams, definitely not a winning strategy. With no deep threat the run game even with a decent line would give you 5-7 yard chunks at a time cause everyone’s playing close to the line.
CP pretty much made Coles career so there can't be too much hate. Coles did not really go deep a lot when he played for the Redskins so... 2007 New York Jets 4 24 211 8.8 52.8 24 4 2 0 13 0 2006 New York Jets 16 91 1,098 12.1 68.6 58T 6 12 3 52 1 2005 New York Jets 16 73 845 11.6 52.8 43 5 6 1 52 1 2004 Washington Redskins 16 90 950 10.6 59.4 45 1 10 1 52 1 2003 Washington Redskins 16 82 1,204 14.7 75.2 64 6 21 3 54 0 2002 New York Jets 16 89 1,264 14.2 79.0 43 5 19 2 67 1 2001 New York Jets 16 59 868 14.7 54.2 40T 7 14 1 42 0 2000 New York Jets 13 22 370 16.8 28.5 63 1 6 1 16 0 Damn he has only fumbled 4 times in his career and he catches a shitload of passes, impressive. Cotch is a super star waiting to happen -- freaking Herm would praise Cotch so much in preseason but would never play him.
CP didnt make anyones career. Coles was going to succeed no matter where he was. The guy put up numbers with a past his prime Brunell for fuck sakes. It's easier to say the WR's made Penny. cuz not once has he had to play with all bad recievers.
Ok note to self, you do not like CP. With all do respect receivers need QB's to get them the ball. Look at Moss in Oakland and the Moss now. Same player hell of a difference. I know he eventually quit in Oakland, but for a while I am sure he was open as hell but none of the QB's they had could get him the ball. Same concept. Coles did get that phat contract right after the couple of good years with CP. I see your in FL, originally from NY like myself? Tell you peps to stop moving down here and driving up home prices lol.
nah I love Penny but to say CP made Coles career is ignorant. What I said is a knee jerk reaction to me believing Penny is past his prime. But I will say to anyone without flinching Coles is a much better reciever than Penny is a QB. without a doubt. Penny is above average at best. I'm sorry. I love the guy to death hes not a bum and hes not horrible but hest just not special. i once placed him on a pedastal but then i woke up sometime around the first shoulder injury and realized its never gonna happen. Moss, Coles, Martin, the former top 5 o line in the league. Penny has never made his team better, although I will not say everyone made him better. But if Penny was throwing to recievers who werernt good after the catch. thered would be no case anyone could make for him to play.
from jersey originally, moved down here when i was younger. completely different world down here. yeah the real estate market blows right now around here and its getting ridiculous, especially interest rates. hell id move back home (NY/NJ) but the real estate is even worse up there. that and i cant afford it lol
Coles made Penningtons Career! If a receiver can consistently go up and catch fades every week when the whole stadium knows the ball is coming that is making a Qb's career. He takes the ball away from defenders. Period!
HA! you finally found the thread I know you can't stay away from anything CP  Let's just agree they both helped each other out in good ways like someone said a few posts above. Don't want this to become another piss on Chad thread, there's 40 others out there.
cut mccarens justin mccarens is a bum, i dont care if i spelled his name wrong, i know all that bull about lots of plays making up a game but: 1. mcarens cost us a shot at winning in baltimore with his stone hands 2. chad said that he thought mccarens would defend that pass that was intercepted at the end of the bills game he sucks, hes got no heart, and he doesnt deserve to wear a jets uniform
