I think this vilma kid played some LB in college. Maybe we should try him at MLB next to Harris. Has vilma played yet this year?

Next year, we will draft a linebacker by the name of Vred. Then it will be Vred and Vilma in the middle......................

Maybe we should make him catch TD passes like that cock stain in New England.

At the moment the FO and CS are exhibiting no balls at all in how they deal with the Jet's transition into a rebuilding process. They didn't sign any prime free agents to shore up the team while they switched and they didn't ditch any of the misfit toys. On defense the result has been predictable so far and it isn't going to get better if this continues. On offense they actually have the guy to transition to but they're blowing that decision also.

    No guts no glory.

We should trade Vilma tomorrow, I agree. Or fire Mangini tomorrow, either is fine with me. Vilma will fly out of town as soon as his contract is up and as long as Mangini is here. He was on the verge of all pro in the 4-3. In fact he was passed over one year and should have made it then. He is not big enough to play in the 3-4 and that's not his fault. There are a ton of teams who would want him and he will go to the first one that asks.

So yeah, trade him while you can still get something for him. Wait and he walks anyway. (like every other Jet who has any value at all will do)

The Andre Wadsworth Experiment comes to mind. It actually, to me, is a pretty accurate representation of their approach to the entire offseason. Their heart is noble and valiant, but their brain is up their ass. This is not the way you stay competitive in rebuilding mode, which is what Mangini said one of their goals was to be as a team. Stopgaps are only good if they work.

Vilma played terrible, despite his tackles. He missed at least two open field tackles on Lynch. The guy's not a fit.

Tackles, the most overrated stat in football.

While I don't know if trading him tomorrow is the answer, he does look lost in the 3-4. He also looked weak against Lynch.

we should keep vilma no question

those who seem to gripe dont seem to see the good that can be done. sure he is less than the prototypical 3-4 ilb in weight, but he is much quicker and faster than those, which creates problems for linemen to block him. he is not so small that every time or even part of the time the linemen just bowl him 10 yards out of the play. he may be struggling with the reads and angles, but so do other heavier ilb's. look at schlegel for gods sake! be thankful you have a hell of a linebacker as vilma, and quit looking for crap to go on about. he is upper echelon nfl talent, whats the problem? 10-20 pounds is not reason to give him away when his speed makes up for it.

Guards don't have much trouble blocking him when he's coming on a straight rush into the gap. It's awfully hard to use a speed rush lined up inside in the 3-4.

how does 20 pounds transfer to success against 280-300 pound guards?

i guess that 20 pounds will allow him to pancake the guard and the speed increase he gets from the added weight will let him get 5-10 tackles a game behind the los? i guess its alot more than a 350lb nt and proper reads, angles, and help defenders. especially for a linebacker who has never played in this very complicated defense. his speed makes up for his size , if left on this team in the long term.

I said nothing about his size being a factor. I never brought up his weight at all. I simply countered your argument that his speed would be a huge boost as a 3-4 ILB. Sadly, it's not the case. Speed is not a valuable tool for a 3-4 ILB. A proper NT would help immensely, yes, as would the other things you mentioned. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with the point I was making. I never suggested he put on 20 lbs, although it would help as well and certainly more than his speed. Try stringing the words together. It's amazing how much that can help your comprehension.

what are you saying? speed is not the most important factor in sports? i guess you were a ball boy. ha ha i didnt say speed rush. im saying when and if he understands the system fully he will beat the guard to the spot or atleast gain the leverage aspect. if a guard wants you to go one way, and he is denied this opportunity he will be out of position allowing someone else to fill the gap. maybe you should teach our linebackers your method?
