Cotchery is doing a hell of a job considering the circumstances this year....

382 receiving yards puts him at #4 in the NFL (#1 and #2 face off against each other tonight)....

I don't want this to be another Chad thread, so let's ignore the fact that Cotchery's going to retire before he's 30 taking so many huge hits....

So I've got two points to make:

#1) Cotchery, on almost any other team, in my honest opinion, is, if not the BEST a top 3 WR in the NFL.... The way he plays reminds me a lot of a younger Terrell Owens. Tough as nails, impossible to bring down, hands of glue.... Gotta love it...

#2) It's looking more and more likely, with the way Philip Rivers is playing in San Diego, that at NC State, Cotchery made Rivers, and not the other way around.... Maybe our boy Jerricho was the 1st round talent, while Rivers was the 4th round talent...

    Something to think about..

very well could be, good observation  The only thing that bothers me is that he has 0 TDs....but Coles has 4 so oh well

That is odd, but we've got to consider how limited our RZ offense is with Chad in there.... We've essentially got one passing play, the fade, that is intended to get us into the EZ when Chad's the QB, and LC is one of the best in the league at that one...

Given Cotchery's toughness, he seems like he'd be a good target in the middle of the EZ, where he could shield the ball from defenders with his body and make the tough catches, but Chad can't deliver those passes...

I agree wholeheartedly with everything but the retirement before 30. He's through taking those blind hits after this season.

The biggest difference between TO and Cotch is that I don't see Cotchery ever developing the attitude that TO has. He knows he has the talent to be a top receiver, and yet he doesn't complain that he's not getting balls thrown properly or that he should be in a different offense. If the CS is smart, they'll start playing more to his strengths. Can't ignore a weapon of his caliber.

i'm not a told-you-so guy but if you trace mine and other members' posts back to the Herm days, when he wouldn't let Cotchery see the light of day, you'll see we were clamoring for him because of his NC St. days. he'd probably be even better (further along in his development) if he'd seen the field sooner.

Cotchery is a top 10 WR in the NFL, and if Clemens is the answer, Cotchery will soon be a household name.

It doesn't bother me too much considering the fact that there haven't been that many TD opportunities in general. The fact is Chad trusts Coles above anyone else on that offense, so he will go to Coles every time... and there is no reason he shouldn't.

Cotchery and Coles are quite a tandem.

That's why I felt it was necessary to make this thread....

We're not playing to his strengths AT ALL, but he's STILL averaging almost 7 receptions and 100 yards per game.... He's achieving IN SPITE of the coaching and QB, and that's really astounding... The kid's incredible

I was shocked that he didn't get thrown to at the end of the Baltimore game. I know he had been banged up a few plays earlier, but he was in there and would have given his all (as always) to haul in the catch.

I got the feeling that he was only in there as a decoy at the end... It seemed like he got a pretty bad stinger on his shoulder....

When McCareins dropped that 2nd TD, and it was intercepted, Cotchery was the guy who touched Ray Lewis down in the EZ, and you could see he was kind of holding his one arm back, and leaning away from him....

EDIT: But then again, I think Cotchery probably has a better chance at hauling in a TD using only his teeth than McCareins does with his hands....

Coles is CP wide receiver. If KC plays Cotchery TD production will rise i believe. sorry to bring the QBs into it.

Honestly, this wouldn't be such a bad thing. If Cotch is as good as many of us believe he will be, and Coles becomes the #2 option in the offense, Coles will get a huge mismatch on the #2 CBs, resulting in plays getting further downfield.

In this case, it's perfectly legitimate to mention the QBs, since we need a QB who can throw downfield to these threats. Forget names, it doesn't matter who it is, but whoever is the long-term starter for this team needs to have an arm that will air it out to these potent weapons.

I think Coles and Cotchery are one of the few bright spots on this team. There is no need to have #1/#2 WRs here, just 1A and 1B...whoever is open.

With a quality offense (line, QB, running game), they could be in the discussion with Harrison/Wayne, Houshmandzadeh/Johnson and Fitzgerald/Boldin.

What I like and admire most in both of them is their toughness.

i love cotchery, hes my favorite player on the team

BUT, theres no way hes a top 3 WR in this league

Randy Moss, Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Roy Williams...just to name a few

but im very glad we have this guy locked up for a few more years

He's playing better, than all but 3 of those guys, and he's doing it with MUCH less talent at the Qb position...

I was watching the game the other day, and i honestly tried hard to remember a time where Cotchery was at fault for dropping a ball......never happened, the guy has hand's of glue. He'd be a pro bowl receiver with half of the QB's in the league.

Jerricho Cotchery is the complete package. I hope he stays a healthy Jet for his career.

Big fan of Cotchery. I agree, with Clemens we can see more down the field catches. But then again, both Coles and Cotchery are so good after the catch. Short or long, they can both get it done. They are both tough. Cotchery has been playing with a sore shoulder for a few weeks now and keeps on going.

A strong arm is not only about downfield, but also getting the ball there a tiny bit earlier so the receivers can make plays. Cotch and Coles are both good receivers, with Cotch quickly becomming a true #1 type. WR may be the only area where we are truly set for a couple of years.
