I think with all of the moves this offseason, (Coaching, FA, and upcomming draft) that we are 3 years away from seriously dominating the AFC East. How long do you guys think it will be before we get up to that level?

The weakest parts of this run are going to be:
    1. Immediately we still need an O-line and are unsure with the current QB situation.
    2. Longterm, the young tallent that we have now, will be making/wanting top dollars in three years, so we could potentially lose quite a bit.

i think we can be dominating next year if we make the proper moves this offseason.. that means getting playmakers on D, arrington and dyson.. and drafting young studs such as v. davis and d. williams.. if u look at my previous thread of OFFSEASON PLANS.. u will see what i think we need to even start competing this year while setting the seeds for a dominant future..

I think trading up to get Leinart would be a big step to becoming dominant. Leinart may not be ready to take the reins next year but once he is ready he will be a top QB for years to come.

we arent getting leinart.. we just got a backup in ramsey.. why would be do that if we were going to trade up this year for leinart?? why not just like brooksy take the reins if pennington goes down so we can get another top 5 pick?? leinart is pennington part II...

How long before your dominating? Are you kidding me! 3 years. First of all you need to do something about the QB position before you can even think of the Jets doing something in the playoffs. I hate to break this to you, but Chad Pennington isn't the answer. Neither is Patrick Ramsey. Secondly, if your think of trading up to try to get a QB in the draft, I wouldn't go with Leinart. He's nothing but a bigger, slower, Chad Pennington. I think that if you draft Cutler (if he's available), and get some help on the O-line you might make the SB in 6 years. But by then the Falcons will be so dominating you won't stand a chance.

Can you explain why you think Leinart is Pennington Part 2?

I am not sure why Leinart is Pennington part II, pennington is very injured. Leinart is not and as far as is know he has never torn his rotator cuff.
MAybe he is Pennington part in that they can both be accurate QB's, except that Leinart still has the arm to throw in the NFL

First of all he's slow, his arms weak, and he has bad knees. Secondly his whole career in college he was surrounded by all americans. It's going to be a rude awakening when gets surrounded by the the Jets group of non-talent.
Cutler has a stronger arm, and had success at Vanderbilt. I don't really care who you get I just think you're making a mistake with Leinart.

i agree that pennington nor Ramsey are the "Answer" but i dont think ATL will be the dominating force you think it will be. They need an accurate QB, vick is a great runner but he is not winning the SB with his legs, and they need good receivers first.
And nice pick up in Abraham, he is a great talent but enjoy as you watch him hobble off to the sideline 4 times a game holding onto his hamstring

no one knows if Pennington can even play. I hope he can make a full recovery and return to 2002 form, but odds are stacked against him. Maybe the FO is preparing for this and Ramsey will be this year's tackilng dummy and Leinart takes over next season when the oline situation is more solid.

    Just playing devil's advocate.

WE WILL NOT TRADE UP. If anything, we will trade down to around #9 and drafting Vernon Davis or Jay Cutler (if he falls to this spot, which he could). In that trade also pick up a second rounder. Draft a few O-Linemen and our offense can be set. Maybe an OLB in the second round

That said, in '07 we will compete in the AFC East, and in '08 win in and make the playoffs

the scouting reports say that the knock on leinart is that he doesnt have a strong arm.. tho he is the heralded QB coming out of USC as a heisman winner, he IS NOT carson palmer.. palmer can make every single throw with accuracy as we saw last year when he shredded each team week in and week out.. leinart is pennington-like, in that he has nice accuracy but doesnt have the arm to make deep throws throughout the entire game.. yeah, pennington can throw the ball deep, but can he throw it with zip?? theres a reason why leinart didnt participate in the combine.. i bet if they took a speed radar score on his throw, it would be lower than most QBs.. yeah, he looked good at USC, but thats bc their team was dominant, he has so much time, his players got so open for him.. what happens when he doesnt have time, or needs to make a play on his own?? we saw what happened in the rose bowl.. he looked horrendous when he was under pressure.. he looked like bollinger with those happy feet.. please, for the love of god.. do not draft leinart..

I've never understood why fans of other teams come to this board, and offer their opinions about the Jets. Like we care. Even if I didn't have to work, I don't think I would ever find the time to waste on a Falcons board giving rasberries or kudos for your FO moves, or speculate about your draft choices.
This will probably come across as sour grapes, but Michael Vick is the most overrated player in the NFL. I'd take a healthy Pennington over him every Sunday. Hell, I might even take an unproven commodity like Cutler or Leinart over Vick.
I hope and pray, that the #29 pick in this year's draft has an opportunity to block Jabe on his ass, or to sack the shit out of Michael Vick.

We might need to do something at QB but so do you! You'll never win it all with Vick running all over the place. With all the moves you guys have done you still have a QB that can only run, but wait you'll probably draft his younger brother so you'll be awesome next year.
