I believe the Jets as an organization have turned a corner. The new regime has now shown with the Abe trade that they will not be bullied or pushed around. The Jets felt Abe was worth a first round pick and that is what they got. In previous years you would have seen the Jet front office become worried. Worried, that they would end up not getting anything for Abe. Worried he would just become an even bigger headache and eventually leave town with the Jets getting nothing but problems in return. The front offices of years pasted would have settled on a second round pick and player the Jets never needed in the first place (ie. Duckett). Then they would have claimed that they got the best deal for Abe and the better end of that deal, when everyone else knew they got jobbed. In my mind that is the difference. The Jets now have a front office that is willing to play the game and knows how to win. They will not be pushed around. They know that when people want something they come for it (in this case ATL wanted Abe). The FO knows you don't give away talent just because other teams know your trying to unload that talent. The FO now knows how to handle situations they are not just going to roll over like previous Jet FO from previous years. Hopefully, this will new attitude will show on the field. The Jets will finally "Play the game to win" as Herm always put it. Hopefully, the Jets will no longer get a lead and try to keep it. I hope and believe they will finally put the nail in the coffin when they can and not open the coffin up. I also think it is just as important that the front office seems to have a plan. The FO will not over pay for FA they are not after the big name instead they want players that fit into the team as a piece. That?s how a team is assembled piece by piece and all of those pieces need to fit together and be interchangable. If you read my post on Kimo you know how I feel on him. A summary of how I feel is that Kimo knows how to win and still has some left in the tank. He isn't from a loser team. Instead he has just won a SB, played in the 3-4 for years, and has been successful at it. Also we have signed Chatham who I believe will be added as depth. Also, Chatham will help get guys in the "right spot" with the new 3-4. Dwight offers speed and is a great special team?s player and all great teams have great special teams. Finally, Ramsey at least offers us a cheap extra option at QB. He is a guy in my opinion is capable of a big game but has never put those games back to back. Maybe a change of scenery can help him who knows. I do not want to drag on, but instead want to know how others feel. Basically, I believe the Jets have turned a page. No longer will they be bullied or pushed around. Instead they are keeping their eye on what they want and getting it. Putting together a team piece by piece because after all that?s what a TEAM is. When one piece goes down there needs to be someone to step right up and depth gives you that. Thoughts ??? Comments???
As thing whole thing developed, my confidence in the Tangini era grew.... I really do think Bradway would have taken the second. From Mangold to Gilles to whomever they take at 29, it works great for the Jets. 3 picks in the first 36. All three picks could be ready to start in the NFL, with the exception of a QB. They have now established that this "baby-faced" crap that the NY media has foisted on them is pure BS. They came to play..... and I think the future in Jetlandom is BRIGHT!
I agree, but we still have to see whether or not Mangini will turn out. He is young and a gamble, which can go either way. Here's to his success!!
I love the things this FO is doing so far. Head-and-shoulders more professional than when the last regime was calling the shots. I don't know about anyone else, but this stuff inspires confidence in me as a fan that we're following a solid and proven plan instead of flying by the seats of our pants. (COUGHCOVER-WHO?COUGH)
Great post man. I started a smiliar thread, but yours is much more expansive on the subject. I think we're really beginning to see the early signs of competant leadership. But as a Jets fans I still can't hitch a ride on this sail boat of free love just yet. I believe we've righted ourselves with our many purgings, but now we need to stay the course and see this rebuilding process through. Only then will I be able to fully embrace this front office and coaching staf.
I think the F.O. lost some face after they botched the Herm Edwards deal, only getting a 4th round pick for a coach we still had under contract. But i think they stuck to their guns and got what they were looking for, good job F.O.
 They got the 29th pick. Stop patting these guys on the back. Abe was worth a mid rd 1 and a 3rd at least.Pass rushers of his "ability" are rare. Sorry guys the new guys blew this one big time. Bring back Bradway!
Very true, i was using F.O. as a general term. but yes this is a new F.O. and i like it much better than the old.
I think your being a lit hard on the F.O. the only real J Abe suitors were Atl who were offering a 2nd round pick and Seattle who was offering #31 overall and the Jets got #29. so it could have been worse. its not like Atl was offering the #15 overall but Jets settled for #29. i think they got the best value they were gonna get.
Lets see what they do with the picks first before we get giddy, although I like them sticking to their guns and getting a 1st round pick
Granted at this time that's what was on the table. I would have waited till the draft before signing off on this deal. They pulled the trigger a little too quick on this one.
