http://coloyan.com/society/s091607 Blog Post below, click on link above for pictures __________________ The NFL was quick to come down hard on the Patriots for illegally video taping their opponents but are other teams just as guilty, including the New York Jets? Some Patriots' fans over at Patsfans.com have found some interesting evidence in the form of the vidcaps below which show people on the New York Jets sidelines who have video cameras but no media credentials (vest). The man in this picture is of particular interest to several Patriots' fans as he is not Belichick's video cameraman and he is not taking official footage of the game because he does not have a media vest. This man in a Jets polo and shorts is seen repeatedly taking footage while the Patriots and other teams are on defense. So who is this mystery man and why does no one in the media want to touch this with a 10 foot pole? Could it be that the Patriots are not the only ones guilty of illegal video taping but the media would rather just drag the Patriots through the mud than reveal that this occurs league wide? Several Patriots' fans have contacted the media asking them to look into this and identify this man. It has been confirmed that this is NOT the Patriots' video guy Matt Estrella which is evidenced by the fact that he is at several Jets' games against other teams. Unfortunately no one seems very interested. Could it once again be a case of the media being too lazy to look for the real story and instead just taking the easy way out by piling on a popular target like the Patriots?
There is no backlash. There's only the whining, New England-style, mentally deficient, ever-bitching, Mackerel-snapping, Jets and Yankees Denegrating Boston fans, most of which have imbibed too much ale and ingested too much mercury-laden bluefish. These people can't help themselves, honestly. Without real lives, they feed on making life miserable for anyone else around them or anyone within their sphere of infuence, which unfortunately includes sports opponents. The best remedy is a good dose of reality, which should include but not be limited by a healthy dose of losses. The time is coming....
Don't overlook this. Not those fool photos of the cameraman, but the Mangini bashing that seems to be brewing. This is such a hot NFL story, and the Commissioner's office left it so open-ended, that the press is now looking for sideline stories. Selena Roberts goes on the attack in today's NY Times. PTI had an anti-Mangini piece this evening (or so I read). This is going to be like All in the Family - spinoffs, spinoffs, and more spinoffs.
Media accessibility builds relationships that can shield coaches from this kind of heat. Both Belichik and Mangini have a lot of negative relationships with the press at this point. Of course Belichik has 3 rings so he doesn't care what people write. Herm was all about media accessibility and he caught breaks all over the place, right up until the moment he left town. In KC he's trying the same thing but there's too much blood in the water already. He'll be gone by the end of next season.
I would tell them to get their panties on straight and read the rules. As far as I have read there is no rule against having your own cameramen on the sideline. The rule is that you can't film opposing coaches signals which is clearly what the Spats did and got caught doing. Maybe that's why nobody in the media is interested in it.
the rule is absolutely no team video equipment on the field. could be something. could be nothing. i'm sure it will come out now. WHO IS HE AND WHY IS HE THERE!!!!
Actually you are right. I just re-read the rule. Here it is in it's entirety. Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent's offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches' booth, in the locker room or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game." So i'll go along with you and ask the same question, who is he? Of course the question could then also be asked what kind of camera it was. If it was a film camera and not a videotape capable camera then maybe it is still legal. They do make those films throughout the year that show what goes on on the sidelines all the time. They are made with regular film. Of course the real bottom line is he wasn't caught with the goods so they can say anything at this time. Just like NE will with what they turn over to the league.
A couple of those photos are in the preseason... For some reason I highly doubt, that after Goodell issued the league-wide warning, we'd steal signs in meaningless preseason games...
Good points all. I also think that Belichick was playing with fire pulling the stunts on guys who know what the Wizard looks like behind the curtain. I wouldn't even be surprised if Mangini told him to quit it, and Belichick kept doing it. I don't know what the repercussions to Mangini could really be in the end. The NFL is competitive enough that no one would extend an olive branch to their competition just because they've kept the code of silence on devious issues like this one. Kill or be killed.
Selena Roberts has such a hardon for Mangini it's not even funny. she will bash him whenever she gets the slightest opportunity. It started as early as last August, even before the season began. It is strictly personal with her. She is on a mission to take down our coach with her pen. Good thing it's not all that effective.
Perhaps true, but let's dissect a story in the making. First she writes it (and I'm no fan either. She lost me forever with her Duke lacrosse stuff). Then, Kornheiser rips it off. Next, some football blog like profootballtalk repeats it for a million more readers. Frankly, I disagree with the premise. In the NFL, owners, managers, and coaches will engage in all sorts of wonderful savagery to put their teams in a position to win. If Eric Mangini can do that for someone, he'll always have a job. But what I think isn't important. That there is a story is all that matters.
Ugh, as much fun as this was when the Pats were first implicated, would this whole thing just go away already...
"The biggest issue that Mangini faces is that his team absolutely stinks. One of the problems with being a surprise team is that you can't surprise anyone anymore. They won't win more than six games this year. The Ravens tried to hand the game to the Jets after dominating for three quarters and the Jets refused to take it. The offensive line is awful, the defensive line is terrible, the running back is old, the wideouts drop passes, and the secondary is beat up. The Patriots will win that division by five or six games, easy. That, more than anything, is going to put heat on Mangini." I hate to admit this, but they are right on the money.
Huh? Are you sure? We aren't even in week 3 yet. Even if the Jets end up having a bad year, Woody Johnson loves Mangini so much that it would take quite a few bad seasons for the seat to get hot. Furthermore, what's with that quote? Who's this anonymous "league insider"? It very well could one of the darksider posters here at this website. Doesn't mean it's true. This team will not end up 6-10, I assure you. But I see what Sunday Jack is saying. We could be facing some major blowback with the Mangini bashing this year, especially if this team doesn't make the playoffs, which is a real possibility (but they won't be 6-10). And then there may be more...Remember Jack Del Rio and the Jags running up the score on us last year? That may very well happen again. We could also be seeing more coaches accusing us of cheating, just like that asshole Billick. So it goes when you break the code of the good ole boy network. It really sucks.
Mangini probably didn't want any of the spying stuff to see the light of day. However it was exposed and many around the league probably think he had something to do with it. No one likes a snitch even if they are exposing a cheater. As to the other points in the quote; I think they are spot on. NE will probably go undefeated this year. They will win it all. Our O & D line suck. The RB is on the old side and the receivers have not been able to hold on to anything. We will not be taken for granted by any team after last season. The schedule is harder. We will be lucky to be 2 & 7 by the bye week. The only team I feel they have any real good chance against is Miami. The second half is even worse. They never beat Pitt or Dallas. How many wins do you see coming in the second half? I don't see many other than maybe Miami, KC and Tenn. * This post was to Sundayjack above.
We beat Pittsburgh in 2003 and came close in '04. Dallas isn't as close good as think and New England will not go undefeated. Come on, man. Give it another couple weeks before you start climbing the ledge. we very well could be 4-2 after week five.
That would be quite a trick. I'll bet Mangini would really be viewed as a cheater if he could pull that off.
