I am suprised no1 has even mentioned Brad Smith dropping what seemed to be a fairly easy catch on the onside kick.

I know people will come here and say that he was jumping, it was tough, and i agree...Im just suprised that with all the bashing today no1 has even mentioned the fact that if Brad Smith recovers that ball (whihc maybe he should have, it was set up perfectly and i dont think i would have wanted it any other way) we're not rushing down for a last min TD, maybe were going for a FG on the last drive.. I knwo this fits in my "what if" category but i figured some1 would bash him for not gettin the ball.

horrible play but it ended up having little impact as we ended up getting the ball back & got it to the 7 with plenty of time to score the tying TD.

Could have cost us though, the play needs to be made.

I think had the Ravens gone on to kill the clock, you'd see alot more people bashing Smith. But, the Ravens only wasted about 25 seconds or something like that on that drive, so in retrospect, it's not that big of a deal.

Plus, it's pretty safe to say there's a much bigger goat in the house than Brad Smith.

I think the Elephant in the room is Bob Sutton. Thats my opinion. WTF do we have to do to get Donnie Henderson back??

Oh yeah, tell me about it.. Why Henderson was told to leave when Herm was fired and Mangini came in is beyond me....

The problem wasn't his hands, the problem was that he jumped into a tough position to make that catch. He had the angle, he just blew the jump. Still, hard to fault a guy on a play that's not routine like McCareins' first drop.

Onside kicks are lucky plays. You can't even use the word "execution" in these scenarios. It's controlled chaos and that's as close a you get. Brad got one hand on the ball while flying through the air. Made your heart jump though didn't it. Great kick by Nuge.

Catching an onside kick is way way way different than a so called professional receiver catching a perfectly thrown ball in stride.

again i think it was a tuff play too...Im not even trying to compare the Mccariens play and his. Infact there not even comparable.
I figured some1 would bash him for not getting it or say, they practice that play, etc.

These guys are the pros, they make the small fortune to play football for a living. For a football player that was a fairly easy play as it practically bounced right into his hands. It is another play that should have been made yesterday, the D bailed him out..

They are ALL pros. meaning the opposing team is just as good as you. Run down the field, jump in the air and try and catch an onside kick which the #1 Defense is hurtling toward you and neck breaking speed. yes its another play that COULD have been made but our D was stiffening up at that time and i find JMacs passes alot easier to catch than an onside kick. TWICE...

Again, I'm not a football player anymore. Yes the JMac passes are easier to make but it was still a play that SHOULD have been made. That was as perfect an onside kick that I have ever seen and SHOULD have been recovered. The D bailed him out this time or he would have taken JMacs position as the goat of the game.

Vision said it best. Im not saying i would make that catch. Im saying that for an onside kick, that was prob practiced in camp that exact way with every1 blocking low and smith going high it seemed like no1 jumped up to defend him, the ball was in his hands.. For a professional Athlete it seemed like a fairly easy catch for your typical onsides recovery

Brad Smith came here as a mid-round quarterback drafted as a wideout and he's learning 3 positions. He gets some leeway from me because he's learning. J-Mac came to us as a guy who 'never got a chance' on the Titans depth chart and proceeded to stink things up in the clutch for us ever since the year after the trade. That's why he's getting bashed. The guy is a veteran and he doinked 2 sure touchdowns yesterday. I bet he would have made those catches in preseason, though.

That play was almost as big a drop as McCareins. Now, tell me. Was that the only play Smith was involved in all day? I can't for the life of me remember another one.

It is not even close. He had a screen pass that went for a bunch of yards.

i dont think it was as big as the McCariens passes, but i dont think it was kind of a gift for him to take and he didnt. Personally, i dont think you get a better chance at an onsider than that

Because its far from a routine play. Any fan that would pick straws at that is a complete ass. Just being in position means that is was a well coached and executed attempt.

Brad had a chance and missed timed the jump. its not like they go over it for hours a day in camp. The Drops by j mac stand out much more as a player just not doing his job.

I mentioned it in the "Going there with the HC" thread. But nothing big.
