Our D could not look worse. Something has to be done and it starts with taking out David Barrett. This guy is oen of the worst corners in the NFL honestly. He got beat down the field by Todd Heap after giving him a 5 yard cushion. It makes no sense that a corner who is that slow is starting in this league. Secondly, we arent getting close to the opposing QB. Our lack of a dominate pass rusher is realyl starting to show. We had the ball bounce our way a lot last year and it masked the fact that other than Rhodes, no one was getting into the backfield. Most of the sacks by Hobson and Thomas were a result of a play breaking down, not them making great moves to get to the QB. I don't know whether we dont have the players or our defensive play callling is horrible, but to not have a pick, sack, or forced fumble in the first two games is pathetic. Only positives on defense today, Robertson looked good and Vilma finally stepped up and made a lot of tackles.
Theyre not making big plays, but you cant say theyre AWFUL. The run defense is ten times better than last year. This may sound like Mangini, but i think there were a lot of "positives" out of the defense. I think D Rob was exactly what we needed him to be. Vilma played one of his best games in the 3-4. Rhodes looked great, Coleman made some good tackles. Eric Smith even made a good play. Coleman was servicable but needs to get better. Revis looked real good again. By the end of the season teams are gonna start throwing the ball to whatever side of the field hes not on. Barret BLOWS, but that was expected. The big plays will come with time, but other than that im encouraged by the D.
u kidding? They played pretty well. They stuffed the run really well. the offense just left them out to dry until the fourht quarter. Notice that the defense was dominating in the beginning of the game and when the offense got it going and they got to rest. The weak point however is barrett. He is just terrible. The jets are seriously missing dyson right now. btw penny10jet what coleman needs to get better? erik or kenyon? i really liked kenyon's performance today and thought he was shedding blocks well today.
I see what youre saying, but everytime we play the other team usually faces their 3rd downs at 3 and 3 if that. We hardly ever make stops in the backfield and I just think we look slow out there. Big plays are big plays and come every so often. But I dont think a sack shoudl be considered a big play unless its on 3rd down or forces a fumble. We havent even gotten a sack yet or even been close (other than the hobson play today). That is not ok and I dont see how that leaves you encouraged. I also dont think you can say our run defense played well. OK we didnt let mcgahee get 150 yards rushing but we still let up over 110 yards rushing (97 to mcgahee). In order to say our run defense played well I think that would be if we held a starter to less than 70 yards rushing which I dont see us doing right now.
Yo Akash, i meant Kenyon Coleman. He did shed some block against the run, but against the pass he didn't hold the O-line. The OLBs were hit too early to have any potential to get any pressure on the QB. I think Kenyon played okay, but didn't live up to his contract, at least this far. I do think, however, the D is on its way and is making progress. But then again, what isnt progress from last week.
I copmletely disagree. Normally, the problem with the 3-4 is the run defense. There are natural holes between the guard and the tackle for a RB to go through. That hasn't been the issue in the first 2 games. So my feeling is, it's not the system, its the players execution.
That's what she said.... But definitely. I said it b4, our Defense played well last year when we went Hybrid 4/3 and 5 down Linemen. It worked right after the Cleveland game. Truth is, Stat wise we are average but we give up way too much on 1st down and that hurts us...
The defense is not awful. The pass rush is AWFUL! Week one was one of the worst pass rushes I have ever seen in any level of football. This week they did not get a sack but a little more pressure. They need to fix this ASAP! BTW Revis looks like quite a player on D. He made a couple nice breakups and one thing I have noticed is when he tackles a guy they go down. He is a VERY good tackler.
After 2 games, the Jets have no turnovers and no sacks. That is not good defense nor does it lead to wins.
which makes you wonder why, in year two of the defensive mangenius, the defense still looks like crap.
