So far, everything Tangini had done gets kudos. If this defense can't play the 3/4 effectively, it couldn't possibly be the DC's fault. If the left side of the OLine gets the QB smoked, its Kendall's fault and not the GM's. If this had happened on Edwards' watch, folks would be wanting to burn his house down and kill all his pets. The double standard around here is sickening to say the least. When Edwards implemented the Cover-who, everyone screamed we didn't have the guys to play it. When Mangini implemented the 3/4, oh well, he'll make it work no matter if he didn't have the guys to play it. Now? Our DLine is as effective as our OLine and our QB just got his leg twisted like a pretzel after running for his life damn near all day long. How bout a little balance Jet fans??? Lets be a bit more objective about just how "great" Mangini is. I think the FO/CS blew the Kendall situation. I think the 3/4 Dfense is a bad fit for this team. I also think DBrick just might not develop into something special either. Its the first game I realize that but patterns just may be developing here that will carry on all season long. We don't have a cream puff schedule to hide the flaws this year either. What we're seeing just might be what it is in '07. Perhaps Mangini isn't as stubborn as Herm was and may switch back to the 4/3 before all is lost. At the very least, they damn well better stop bringing in bargain basement talent on the OLine or it won't matter who's playing QB.. JMO.
This game will prove that the honeymoon is over for Mangini. They're going to have to make some changes, or Pennington will be a crash test dummy the rest of the season. As much as I didn't like Kendall's attitude, he has left a huge hole in this O-Line. Mangini better tighten things up.
The uproar has been quietly happening over the last few months. Most of the darksiders are spent. What'll be interesting is to see how the sunshiners are doing at the end of this.
If the lines are playing like this by midseason, it will be confirmed how big of a mistake was made trading up for a corner and a linebacker instead of stockpiling the picks and working on the lines.
I like Mangini and Tannenbaum but they have GUTTED what was once a feared defense. Remember how we almost beat Pittsburgh simply due to our defense in the playoffs? They are stubborn. I'm confident that this is the worst defense in the NFL.
I'm with you CMAN, our D-line is atrocious, Brady is good, BUT!! damn... it's embarrassing. Our personnel sucks and the HC should get some heat for it. I do believe though, that after this performance, the FO and CS will get flamed.
ROFLMAO. That would be Indy. San Diego is next. With Moss the Patriots might be 3rd, but I doubt it. They look like probably the 5th offense overall this season.
I pretty much expected this. I knew we would get blown out. Hell, if I wasn't a Jet fan, I woulda bet on Pats -6.5 - sure win.
A week 1 proclamation like that is as laughable as a proclamation that the Jets are the worst defense in the league. All this game has proven so far is that the Patriots have their shit together and the Jets are still rebuilding. Unfortunately, their approach to rebuilding doesn't seem to be too effective at the moment.
I haven't seen the Jets suck this much since.....oh yeah last year. They Better learn from this one. I'm going to get blasted tomorrow at work. Embarrassing would be an understatement.
i don't know what games people were watching last year, but i think even if we had Kendall instead of Clarke/Bender, the results would be relatively the same. I don't think Kendall is that much better than what we have now. At least I didn't see it last year. Is he better than what we have..yes. that much better?? Nope.
This was a bad performance, but I think it is premature to bury anyone and everyone. The Pats are stacked (on both sides of ball). Let's give them a few weeks to make adjustments (Baltimore is going to be another tall order). It will be interesting to see how they react to Pennington's injury....my guess is he is hurt pretty bad and just played on adrenaline. Both lines are a mess though. DbJ
Come on buddy...get down from the ledge. It's only a first game loss. I'm confient MIGHT get better. This is not the WORST defense in the league. See Cleveland. See the New York Giants.
There are 15 games left, why start flaming???? If you are really talking like this after being beat by the Pats, you need to take some time off. The Pats maybe be the best team in the league, they may have the most talent in the league and they are definitely the best coached in the league.......... calm down.
very reminiscent of the 05 opener in KC in that we came in with high hopes and swagger and our D just got their asses blasted off the field. it was all downhill from there. hopefully the season doesn't progress the same, but the Pats dominance today was as much a reflection of their skill as our ineptitude on defense. so, although we won't have to play NE but one more time, we do have to take the field for 14 other games with this same, ill-equiped porous defense. that doesn't bode well for success this season.
It wasn't so much that we lost, its HOW we lost that's got me a bit chafed. We weren't even competitive today. Although this isn't the worse D in the NFL, it right up there with the other Worst D's in the league. This OLine will get Pennington killed before season's end. You can make the case that the Patriots are that good. You can also make the case that the Jets are THAT BAD too. This FO/CS gets all the credit but never any of the blame. Again, if this was still Herm's team, you could smell the fires burning in the distance.
your argument will only serve to console us that our beloved Jets are still just mediocre. So we continue to lose yrs on our ticker while waiting for the team to win a super bowl. I will agree though that all is not lost. We still may turn it all around, right this ship, and even go into New England and upset the pats. Our defense was turned around mid season before, under our last defensive coordinator. I will remain hopeful.
