exactly, Abraham was a better PICK than Ellis at the time. That's what Im trying to get at. You can't bring in all the other stuff later on.....then Abraham should just get a D and be done with it. Im grading him based on the fact that the Jets SELECTED A GREAT PLAYER. You can't penalize them cuz later on Abraham decided he wanted to be a wimp and sit out big games...

P.S.- Most of the reason for why DeWayne sucks right now is cuz of his chronic injury....that plus the fact that he's expensive makes Jet fans dislike him now.

I have to agree with you. Abe is not an "A". He has ability and talent, but he has missed 23 games due to injury and a full training camp as well. He is also a distraction to the team and let them down in the playoffs by not playing. A players value goes way beyond talent IMO! Crebet is a great example!

Chrebet wasn't exactly Cal Ripken during his tenure as Jet

No, but he has played hurt and is a team player with heart. I say he has more heart that Abe could ever muster. Chrebet was a grade A pick because of it. Look at his numbers and tell me he wasn't. Look at who the go to guy was for how many years? Knowing what we know from their history, I would pick Crebet well above Abe in any draft. The Pats are the perfect example of a team of players who go above and beyond their talents. Abe will never be a great player to reach his potential because he is more concerned about the money and his image than the team and winning.

Laverneous Coles (3rd) A+ Best draft pick in a long time
John Abraham (13) A Best player on the team
Shaun Ellis (12) A- Could start for any team
Jonathan Vilma (12) B+ Future pro bowler
Chad Pennington (18) B+ Great value
Bryan Thomas (21) B+ This year the Jets go as far as he can take us
Santana Moss (19) B Good after slow start - 2001 draft was loaded though
Justin Miller (2nd) B Jury is out but huge upside
Kerry Rhodes (6th) B Off to a good start
Kareem McKenzie (3rd) B Should have kept him
Adrian Jones (4th) B- Good value in round four
Lamont Jordan (2nd) B- Only made sense if they played hardball with Martin
Eric Coleman (6th) B- Hope he recovers from Sophomore slump
Anthony Becht (29th) C+ Good blocker but poor receiver
Victor Hobson (2nd) C Just another guy
Mike Nugent (2nd) C Wasted pick on a kicker so Herm could deflect blame
Derrick Straight (3rd) C- Big name but not very fast
Dwayne Robertson (4) D+ Could be good but very poor value
Jon McGraw (2nd) D Not very good at all
BJ Askew (3rd) D- WTF, I am still scratching my head on this pick
Marko Cavka (6th) Inc - I like him but injury prevents grading him yet

Well to be specific Chrebet wasn't even a "pick", rather an UDFA...

Yes. My mistake. One of the better things the Jets have done in those years of ineptitude. Wish we had a team full of Crebets!

lets try this again...this time how the players are graded by how they play on the JETS!!

J.Abraham A ( i would give him a plus if he didnt rip the jets or cry about his knee..)
    S.Ellis B ( productive some years...not so much others)
Becht D+ ( hands of stone)
Pennington B+ ( if the injuries werent there, an A)
Bryan Thomas D-( uhhhhh...we wasted on #1 on this?)
DeWayne Robertson C+ (shows potential...but still no banana)
Santana Moss B ( he didnt exactly make the Pro Bowl as JET now did he)
Mike Nugent B+ ( TBD, i still remember his first attempt...*slip* oooooops!!)
Justin Miller B+ ( did some but not alot )
Lamont Jordan A ( sad to see him go last Off- Season
Laveraunes Coles A- (He could still do better...but good pick)
    Vilma A+ ( enuf said)
Derrick Strait C+ ( what has he really done so far)

J.Abraham A: Would be A+ if it weren't for the injuries
S.Ellis B+: Consistent effort, inconsistent performance
Becht C-: Good blocker, but not worth the pick
Pennington A-: Was on pace to be great before injuries
Bryan Thomas D+: Little production so far
DeWayne Robertson C+: Had one very good year, not worth #4 at this point
Santana Moss: A-: One very good year as a Jet, one great year as a Redskin
Lamont Jordan (A- for the player, B- for the pick): Underestimated Curtis with this pick
Laveraunes Coles A: Great 3rd rounder
Vilma A: Impact MLB, needs to do it for longer to get an A+

    J.Abraham B is always injured
S.Ellis A plays better without ABE
Becht C+ has stone hands only for blocking though
Pennington A-...all the tools( except big arm) but injury prone
    Bryan Thomas C-...bust
DeWayne Robertson C not sold on him
Santana Moss B+....damn !...the deep ball go getter
Mike Nugent B- not sold on him yet but he was good in college
Justin Miller B will only get better
    Lamont Jordan A missing him
Laveraunes Coles A++ (round 3) was a running back in college
    Vilma A++DYNAMIC
Derrick Strait C+ has not stepped up since college to prove anything to me..wasnt he supposed to flourish in a zone scheme?

I don't know how you can say that. Ellis is always at his best when Abe is on the other side causing havoc. Take 03 as an example. For the first two months of the season Ellis was racking up stats, as soon as Abraham was hurt Ellis' production took a big time hit. Check it out, quite interesting. Ellis is okay, but without another big time contributor on the other end his is JAG.....

    2000:
Ellis B+ (inconsistency keeps it from being an A)
Abraham A- (injuries keep it from being an A or A+)
    Pennington B+ (injuries)
Becht C+ (solid, but disapointing for a #1)
    Coles A+, an absolute steal

    2001
Moss A- (inconsistency with NYJ, exploded last year)
Jordan B (A value, but can't go higher since his PT with the Jets was limited)
    McKenzie B+

    2002
Thomas D- (credit being a nice role player, but a waste for a 1st rounder)
McGraw D+ (injuries did him in)
Baker C- (didn't really get to see what he could do last year)

    2003
Robertson C+ (good DT, paying him like a franchise DT)
    Hobson B (solid starter)
Askew D- (done absolutely nothing so far)

    2004
Vilma A (on his way towards becoming an A+)
    Strait B- (nice nickel back)

    2005
Nugent B- (controversial pick, came on in the 2nd half)
Miller B (the talent is there, can he take the next step)
Pouha D (won't call him a bust after 1 year, but MIA in 2005)

i think when you factor in how late he was drafted and how good he turned out to be, coles is the best jets draft selection in a long time. Vilma is a great pick but he was 12 overall. Coles was a serious diamond in the rough at rd 3.

    Ellis when Abraham plays: 69 games, 202 tackles, 20 sacks (2.93 tackles/game, 1 sack per 3.45 games)
    Ellis when Abraham doesn't play: 26 games, 86 tackles 16.5 sacks (3.31 tackles/game, 1 sack per 1.58 games)

The biggest mis-conception on this board is that Ellis is nothing without Abraham. He is BETTER when Abraham is out.

I was generous with Thomas but think that he will start at DE for us this year. Of course the grade is based upon what I think he can do if we fill our DT hole in the draft.

If you only find fault with one grade out of 21 I think I did pretty good.

Nugent C Never draft a kicker in the 2nd rnd
Miller B Hasnt done much yet but has shown talent
Pouhla C didnt do much and his age concerns me
    K. Rhodes B+ a 4th rnd pick as a 1st yr starter is good
    A. Maddox C
    C Houston C
    J Dreesen C
H Williams C a 7th rnd pick lasting a whole yr is decent

    04
    Vilma A
Strait D He hasnt done anything yet and might be the 4th CB this yr
Cotchery C It usually takes Wr 3 yrs to develop. this is the yr
A Jones B 4th rnd pick starting in yr 2 isnt that bad
Coleman B+ not many better 5th rnd options
Cavka C I will be suprised if he will be here anymore
    McClover C
    T Johnson C
    D. Ward D
    R washington C

    03
Robertson C very close to being a bust
    Hobson B
Askew D why did we pick a FB in the 3rd rnd there were better players
Pagel D we traded a 4th and a 6th for 2 yrs of nothing, we moved up 12 spots
    M. Walters D
Bollinger B a 2nd or 3rd string in the 6th rnd isnt that bad
    Yovanovits D

    02
B Thomas F all I have to say is Ed Reed
McGraw D I really thought he was the next Lynch.
    Baker C
    A Harper D
    J Goodwin D

01 Moss D he didnt have great seasons for us. Plus we traded with the Queelers and they got the guy I wanted.
Jordan D he didnt do jack for us, and we didnt need a RB, and we got no picks for him
McKenzie B+ a solid starter and started in yr 2
    Henderson D
    J. Reed C+ He sucks yes but for a 7th rnd pick lasting that long we got some value.
Peko F- we cut him and now he is the starting guard for the Colts(not sure about their 2006 plans)

    2000
    Abraham and Ellis are B+
    Pennington B
Becht C atleast he started for us
    Coles A
the rest of that draft D's W. Hayes, T scott R. Seals
