    Jets eye Hawkins
    By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

The New York Jets hosted former Patriots defensive back Artrell Hawkins on a visit at their team headquarters this week.

Hawkins, 30, played in 19 games with 16 starts for the Patriots over the last two seasons. When he joined the Patriots in the middle of the 2005 season, current Jets head coach Eric Mangini was New England's defensive coordinator.

The Patriots released Hawkins on Aug. 18. He had been battling an undisclosed injury and had been held out of practice since Aug. 8.

"I still love the game and I'm not quite ready to call it quits just yet," Hawkins told the Boston Globe upon his release.

The Patriots visit the Jets in the season opener Sept. 9.

Last season he started 12 games for the Pats (71 Tackles, 1 INT, 2 Forced Fumbles).

I was quite surprised that they released him actually. What are the chances that we sign him?

"listen, we'll be honest. you can work out, but we're probably not gonna sign you. however, we'll write you a check for any information you provide us regarding the Pats."

You guys are joking, right? That 2001 Patriots championship team was riddled with ex-Jets.

No argument here.. Bottom line is that it doesn't really matter.. Whether they came from the Jets or Chargers.. Look at the end result... That was a cool parade to go to.. You should of been there..

I hear there were a lot of 'Yankees Suck' chants, it was the height of football fandom. I wish my football heroes would ride around in duck boats more often.
