Mussina And I totally agree with you on Wright/Britton. It's amazing he got anything for Wright, let alone a serviceable major league reliever
Oh, okay. Moose is being paid $11.5 million this year, though, not $19 million. The $19 million/year contract was paid to a then-ace at age 31/32. At the time it was made, this recent contract was a good one. I'm not sure how anyone could say otherwise. Of course, people love to second-guess... but at the time, it was by far the best move available.
Oh true, I had forgotten that Mussina got the new contract. Maybe I'm wrong then..and I agree, at the time, it was the best move available. Sure, in hindsight, with Hughes and Kennedy coming up, and Clemens in the rotation now, it looks like a horrible move. But who, back in November and December, would think that Kennedy, or Joba to a certain extent, would be able to go through A, AA, and AAA to reach the majors in their first full year of pro ball?
Exactly. And - as I've asked a couple of times, without getting an answer - who was the better choice than Moose? I can't think of anyone. Zito? Lilly? Meche? Meche might've performed better this year, but I don't know that I offer a five year deal to someone like that. A two-year deal to Moose, regardless of what we're seeing now, seemed like the right move at the time, especially considering the season he had in 2006.
This is the same guy who wanted Torre fired a few months ago and wanted mariano demoted a few weeks ago:rofl:
