ramirez pitched 2.1 innings in the bmore game which obviously rivera f'ed up in the 10th.. i blame torre for last night also.. he manages for the next day.. never the game at hand.. so wat if joba cant pitch 2 days cause he went 2 innings.. if we win its meaningless.. he pitched 1 yesterday we lost and now cant pitch today.. i wanna win the game today, and 2morrow.. but manage for today, worry about 2morrows game 2morrow..
I just can'tbelieve they even played the game! I actually jumped on XBOX live after 3+ hr waiting figuring this isn't getting played. I checked the ticker today to see if it was gonna be a day night and bam..WTF!?
I don't get you guys, I really don't. I've been incredibly critical of Joe Torre for his entire Yankees tenure, and I can't find any fault with what he's doing lately. He HAS to manage for tomorrow today. You guys should realize that by this point. We can't afford to lose ANY games, not today, not tomorrow, not next week. Managing solely for the moment disallows a win tomorrow. So if Joe uses up Joba for the rest of the series last night, tomorrow, when we don't have him, and we desperately need him, you'll bitch then too. I'm loud with my bitching, but at least I try to come from a point of sense when I do it. At this point, you guys are simply pointing the finger at Torre for everything, and ignoring the fact that we couldn't score late in the game. Plus, you're also ignoring the fact that the one lefty we have left in the pen is garbage. And that's not even mentioning (repeating) that it was LATE. Were you at all tired last night watching the game? I was nodding off. Would you rather someone like Chamberlain or Ramirez pitched two innings, but due to a fatigued body pulled a hamstring? Then it would be "Torre should have pulled him after one, he SUCKS!" Yeah, we all want to win every game, especially since our October chances are quickly dwindling, but at the same time, you have to look at the entire situation. If we miss the postseason this year, so be it. I'd much rather have next year to look forward to, with a rotation of: Wang, Hughes, Chamberlain, Pettitte, (then either Moose if we can't dump him, or preferably Kennedy.) Couple that with guys like Ramirez in the pen, and we look very good going into next year. Would you rather risk the long-term with those guys for a chance to lose in October now? If you honestly believe this team is talented enough to beat the Sox in October, you may want to not watch the Boston series coming up. Time to be realistic folks. It sucks, and I'm not the least bit happy about it, but I can deal with the first October home in over a decade, with my eyes on next year.
Never in my life have I seen such after the fact, ad hoc reasoning. I don't like Torre's bullpen management, this year more than most... but last night is NOT on Torre. Yes, it's his job to make sure there's someone in the pen if the game goes twenty innings. Duh... that's why Henn and Bruney were still in the pen. If you don't like Henn because he sucks, that's understandable... but that's who he had. Torre tries to win for tomorrow? He used the pen in the order he did specifically because he was trying to win THAT GAME. Managing for the next game would've involved giving Rivera his second day of rest. Oh right, never mind... Rivera totally sucks now. [/sarcasm] By the way, for those of you suggesting the Vizcaino should've gone two, you know he has complained of elbow soreness, right? And that's why Torre's been trying to go easy on him? I will now sit back and watch, amused, as Torre is blamed for using Vizcaino too much and that's why he couldn't use him enough last night. Really, people. Let's try to maintain a semblance of a grip on reality.
Thankfully Seattle lost, Chi isn't putting up a fight against Boston so we remain 6 back. We need a W today w/ Moose pitching tomorrow night.
So is everyone happy with Torre's bullpen management last night? Or will people complain that Wang didn't get the complete game? (While I would have liked to see it, there was no reason to make him throw more pitches than necessary.) I'm impressed with Wang's game last night. I've been critical of him of late, but last night he really pitched well. The bats also played the kind of game they are supposed to. The races are getting very hard now. I still don't have a lot of confidence, but what I hadn't realized is we still have Seattle coming to us, so that may be where we save the sinking ship. Of course, we need games like last night, rather than Friday if we have any hope.
Especially after sitting through that long top of the ninth. And don't forget, Seattle has been going through their "soft" part of the schedule since the beginning of July. Monday sees them entering a stretch of much tougher opponents, and a lot more road games. Meanwhile, the Yanks get to finish up their season with a month filled with games against Tampa Bay, KC, Baltimore, and Toronto. Not to mention Boston and Seattle. Of course, I take all strength of schedule comparisons with a grain of salt... pitching matchups have as much, if not more, to do with it, and the teams still have to perform. That said, Seattle doesn't worry me. They've been playing out of their minds lately (similar to how the Yanks were playing out of their minds after the ASB), but I don't think it can last. As long as the Yanks take care of their business, they should have the wild card.
Cano with a 3 run hr to make it 5-4. It looks like its going to be one of those afternoons. Also, the way the BP was used yesterday might salvage the win today since some of the relievers that were used for only 1 inning will be needed today unless joe lets Hughes pitch 8 tough innings.
Hughes is showing plenty of moxie today as he keeps going without his best stuff. its starts like today that show what a young pitcher will be able to accomplish in the future. However, I do think that if Joe had a rested and full bullpen that he would of pulled Hughes after Thames hr in the third. Joe had no choice but to let Hughes go and it will payoff in the long run.
