Miami was reportedly Baker's other option.... they have now signed Peele from SD, and Teyo Johnson. Looks like the Miami option is gone for Baker.... and I hope that's true, I like Baker over Putzier. Peele is the blocking TE. Johnson almost more WR than TE. With McMichaels in place, would hthe Phins sign a 4th TE? I doubt it.

Baker! Come home! We need you!

i dunno man .. i would lean on the much younger and proven vertical treat in puztier .. im not sayin that Baker has no skills .. but he is kinda gettin old and doesnt really have the makings of a vertical treat .. he is kinda like a short 5-10 yards treat .. i might be wrong ... im just sayin wut i think.

Baker was a very solid Receiving TE at Mich. St. Not only that, but he's also a big body with adequate strength to provide decent blocking.

I've always hated that Baker hasn't been given a shot to flourish. And last season, when he finally got his chance, there was no to throw him the ball. Still, he had a few games where he showed his potential.

Unfortunately,we may lose out on another good player that will go somewhere else. But I'm with you, manl; hopefully he'll stay here and be a nice target for Ramsey.

    cheers

Chris Baker deserves an opportunity. He looks good whenever he gets some playing time. Give the man some looks and lets see what he can do. He wasn't utilized correctly by the Herm/Bradway regime. Why would we trade a first rounder for a Tight End when we already had a productive one in Baker? Bradway never liked him, and because Bradway didn't, Herm always made him a victim of circumstances.

Baker was on Sirius today.. I caught the end of the clip so I couldn't tell if he was speaking about his situation specifically or free agency in general (maybe someone else caugh it?)--- but he said it is good for guys to go out and test the market because sometimes you don't get drafted into a situation that you like very much.

I would love for Baker to stay. I think that he was above average at MSU and he could get better in the N.F.L in under the right circumstances.

Putzier isn't this down field threat that some seem to consider him to be, IMO. I think Baker is equal to him in that regard, and is a better blocker.

He was the starter here last year.... all the more reason to stay, I would think.... and hope.

If we get Baker back, I think we can all move on from Vernon Davis (myself especially)

Baker has been solid since we have drafted him. He has not had the opertunity to start and when he did he got over 100 yards recieving in one game. The previous coaching staff never used him the way shey should have, I think we need to resign him because he is cheap, has good hads and can block.

Yeah, I was wondering what made him think that.

Remember that we already have 3 tight ends: Jolley, Dresseen, and Dearth. And I don't want to give Joel Dresseen the same treatment as a backup that Baker got. I'd love to see what Joel could do.

Dearth is an LS, and nothing more. If Dreessen can show he's ready to take over the LS role, we can lose Dearth, and carry 3 TE's... Jolley, Baker and Dreessen. I look at that combo as Baker as the starter, Jolley as the H back, and Dreesen for depth at both spots. Works for me. Dreessen will see his share of the ball as a second year guy with that roster, I think.

I wouldn't mind Baker coming back, but I would prefer Putzier. I think Putzier has ALOT of potential that was wasted in Denver. Baker I think has hit his peek. I have nothing to base this on, just my impressions. But either Baker or Putzier would be good fits.

I totally agree TBird. I want Baker back as the #1. He should have started over Becht long ago to begin with. I wouldn't mind that lasts scenario at all. Dearth is just disappointing. If it weren't for the LS responsibility, he would have no place here at all.

If Dreessen can take over that role, then Baker, Jolley, Dreessen is the way to go.

Besides, let's remember who was in charge when Putzier was highly prized. Hell, if he was so good, and would have fit Dinger's offense so well, why didn't Denver keep him?

I think I remember it being for financial reasons, supposedly. However, he must not be that good since Dinger is there now, and we all know how he feels about TEs. If Putzier had the talent, he would be there.

My bad .. for some reason i was thinking of jerall Sowell and put Bakers name on him .. weird .. but i guess i was wrong with the age thing .. with that being said then im leaning towards baker then .. i still think putzier is more of a vertical treat than baker .. but i think baker is more of a complete TE ...

.. atleast he doesnt get JACKed up every week

by looking at the stats id have to say your wrong. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/gamelog?playerId=3616 I think at times he has shown he can make the big vertical play, he just didn't get enough oppurtunites. then he got injured. personally I would like to have him arounf for another year or two. i'm not counting out jolley either though, let the best man win. If you look at what the pats have done with their TE formations over the past few years, i'm not saying that mangini will do everything like the pats, but thats one part of the offense I would welcome. the jets in the past have never really used their TE's effectively.
