I have 6th pick in my league, and I'm guessing the first five picks will be, in some order, Tomlinson-Jackson-Johnson-Alexander-Gore. If one of them falls to me, I will take him, but I don't think that's too likely. Therefore, I'm having some trouble deciding who I should take 6th. I play in a 2 QB league, so QBs are extremely important--Peyton Manning was the 2nd-highest scoring player last year in my league with the same settings. Therefore, I'm considering taking him, but I'm leading towards not because RB depth is so weak this year and QB is so deep that I'd rather have an average QB from like the Cutler/Leinart range and a top RB than Manning and a RB from like the McCallister/Benson range as my #1 back, and with at least 2 RBs necessary, my depth could be very weak there. So I'm also considering Addai, Rudi Johnson, and Willie Parker. Addai has been ranked the highest out of those three on many sites/magazines I've seen, since he's in the Colts offense, but they did lose Tarik Glenn on their line, which is a huge blow. Johnson has been great and consistent the past few years, and his backup Kenny Irons is out for the year, so he'll get a lot of carries. However, the Bengals lost Steinbach, who was a big part of their line. That leaves me with Parker, who was great last year but I'm having trouble convincing myself he can put up those types of numbers again, especially with rumors that Najeh Davenport will get more carries and Roethlisberger will be healthier and therefore they'll pass more. So, who would you take of those 4, and why? Thanks for the help.
I'd go with Manning and grab the best available RB in the 2nd wouldn't be surprising if the 4th or 5th pick was manning and one of those RBs fell to you
I'd go with Joseph Addai...You could get Palmer in the 2nd or Brees in the 3rd (assuming this is a snake draft)
I would say Addai because you still can get good QBs later and the RB pool is extremely shallow as far as bonafied starters go. I would take Manning maybe in the 8-10 range. That said, he should at least be considered there. I think you def should look at 2 RB and 2 QB in the first four rounds. If you can get a Carson Palmer and a Donovan McNabb that is way better than a Roy Williams and a Vince Young later on.
I like Parker more than Johnson but I also like Westbrook more than Johnson. For Johnson it comes down to losing some key OL members and him being due for a slump year. For Parker it comes down to losing his OC and OL coach and never really being sold on him as a full time back. I like Westbrook because Reid should want to run it more, they have a solid OL, and McNabb is healthy again.
I think you are all missing the part about a 2 QB league. The reasoning for picking RB's before QB's is that you are starting 2:1, so RB's are more coveted. In a 2 QB league, you start just as many QB's as RB's. Combine that with the fact that most sunday's only 32 QB's will even put up stats, while you'll get between 40 and 50 RB's putting game-worthy numbers and you'll start to see how valueable QB's really are in this type of league. Unquestionably, PM should be the first pick followed by CP (the other one), MB, and DB. For the same reason RB's should be the top ten picks in a 1-2 league, QB's should be the top 10 picks in a 2 QB league-no question.
I think you need to take a RB first, regardless of the 2QB rule. RB's are much more consistant point scorers and in my opinion the bread and butter or any fantasy team. I love Addai this year in that sick Colts offense. The fact that he won't really be sharing touches makes him look even better. I predict over 2000 all purpose yards and double digit scores. QB's are important, so I would grab brees, palmer, mcnabb, bulger, etc in the 2nd or 4rd round, but you need to take a RB first and foremost.
Normally I would agree, but this particular year there only about half the teams in the league have a viable starting running back, the rest have either mediocre starting running backs or time shares. What that means is there are a lot more viable starting QBs in the league than RBs in the league this year. If you are content with Reggie Bush and Julius Jones and Maurice Jones-Drew and Clinton Portis then you should go Manning but if you want two RBs that are likely to carry the full load for 16 games, then you have to strike early. This is all personal preference but I would prefer: Joseph Addai, Thomas Jones, Donovan McNabb and Eli Manning to Peyton Manning, Maurice Jones-Drew, Donovan McNabb and Adrian Peterson
Exactly...I could get a bunch of sold QBs late, but RB depth is so weak this year that 2nd and 3rd round RBs are mostly time-sharers or unproven starters. For example, I'd rather get like McNabb in the 4th and have two very solid RBs then Manning & two mediocre RBs. That's why I'm leaning towards RB.
