Includes: SS | Kerry Rhodes | New York Jets Nobody's giving him the pub yet, but just watch. He's the rising star (along, maybe, with LaRon Landry of the Redskins) in the secondary for 2007. No other Jets made the first team, but Nick Mangold was a reserve on the Oline... Here is the link: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/dreamteams/08/13/current/index.html
It's interchangeable. He's even listed as a SS on the Jets depth chart. In the Jets scheme, the safeties are designated by left and right, not strong and free.
Peter King makes no sense. How is LaRon Landry already a rising star before he's played an NFL down? Mangold + Revis
Couldn't you say the same thing about Revis....? In any case you have to take a few leaps of faith given the subject matter.
I'd like to know how Peter King came to the conclusion that Mangold is going to be the toughest centre in the game since Jim Otto. You need to be tough to play the position but I didn't see anything from Mangold last year to suggest he's tougher than the hundreds of players who have played the centre position since the mid 70s.
i think its humorous that PK thinks that Mike Furrey > Chad Johnson ( among many others) this is laughable
thats true but i think every team does that. even john lynch is lining up at FS at times, then you have other cover guys like reed who line up right at the strong side to stuff the run at times. rhodes looks like a FS but he plays SS as well. like when he gave up that catch against TE blakley last week :breakdance:
Don't you remember when Leon Washington crushed Mangold's leg and he was out for a series, and came back? It looked like Mangolds leg snapped in half, and he was back out there. I forget which game, maybe Miami. I'm not saying he's tough then the likes of Kreutz and Mawae, but he certainly isn't a pushover.
And I wasn't saying he was a pushover, but the toughest centre in the league since Jim Otto? What exactly is the measuring stick for toughness?
there was another time (vs pats i believe) where he missed only 2 snaps or something like that even though he couldnt see anything (dirt in his eyes i believe or somebody poked him real bad). and the list goes on... he was a rookie last season. wait a few more years and he should be one of the toughest players in the nfl
uhh, The fact that Cleveland had him as a top 5 might be a bad thing since they are the Cleveland Browns. Now if it was the Pats or another successful team then maybe we should get excited.
Say what you will about King but barring injury you can't say that future team wouldn't be damn good.
I'd take Mangold's toughness over Mawae's whining any day! Mawae might be the best center EVER at blocking downfield. However, he had his problems with big NT's. Mangold blocks downfield very well, and he's working to improve his play against big NT's. Overall they have a very similar game - Mawae a bit quicker and Mangold a bit stronger and tougher inside.
isn't it just shameful that last yrs number 1 overall pick after only 1 yr, gets no mention as a future star in the league at his position? He showed so much promise in the pre draft hype, King even selected a college junior over him!! for DE. He was not even the best player drafted on his team!! At least he only selected one tailback, so you can understand why Reggie Bush is not selected.
