Nothing about the Jets is Super Bowl caliber. The team is still a work in progress with a patchwork Dline, Oline and secondary. Don't forget the lack of a bonified QB and a still unproven coach. Lets see what the Jets do without a cup cake schedule.
Chad is no doubt 100% a bonified QB. Coach has proven to me that he is a hard worker and knows his X/Os, our reciever core is deffinately top notch, our running game is ummm YES SB calibor (where was TJ last year?) and with an improving dline and "some" improvements on the oline since 2005 this team is a "bonified" team that is moving in the right direction.
The only super bowl caliber coaching staffs are the ones who have gotten to a super bowl, as Nick Saban and company proved so handily in Miami. I like Mangini and Schottenheimer and Sutton and company. I think Mike Westhoff is the best coach for a specialty in the business. None of them are super bowl caliber yet.
sure, thomas jones was in the super bowl, but he had a much better offensive line than what he presently has with the jets. to say our running game is superbowl caliber, IS NUTS!!!! as far as this coaching staff being super bowl caliber, i'd say it's too early to tell, but i do think mangini knows the x's and o's of offense and defense better than a majority of coach's in the nfl. he was tutored by one of the best and had bill b.'s total respect, as far as intellect. that say's a lot right there. i like what i've seen so far, that's for sure!
Do I think our COACHING STAFF is Super Bowl Caliber? Yes. Mangini seems to be a great young coach with fresh ideas and a great motivator. Schottenheimer is also looking to be a great young coach. He was incredibly creative and got looks for a HC position. Westhoff, in my opinion, is the best ST coach in the game. Smith, who knows? Mangini basically runs the defense.
Westhoff, yes. He's the best in the game. Ben Graham is one of the best punters in the league, too. Err . . . That may very well be it. Go New York Jets Special Teams, yeah!
I'd say the current regime has a better shot at taking us to the SB than the previous regime. (Even when the football gods gave us the AFC Championship game they managed to piss it away). That being said will they take us there? Only time will tell but I think we are heading in the right direction. Unfortunately with Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, Big Ben, Steve McNair, Jay Cutler, and Phil Rivers standing in the way it's not going to be easy.... ever.
I would say, probably not yet. We have a long ways to go to even be considered serious SB contenders. We'll be damned lucky to get to the playoffs, nevermind the SB, no matter who is coaching this team. The koolaid really flows freely during the preseason...
everyone keeps talking about the team, im pretty sure the question was about the coaching staff. And my answer is no, if you look at the recent previous superbowl winning coaches they all had alote of experience at theyre coaching positions, i think we have one of the smartest and in-experienced head coach and offensive co ordinator in the game, but if shotty stays with mangini (not gunna happen) and westhoff doesnt retire, i think they could develop into a superbowl quality coaching staff after a few years. But the jets cant take us there, yet....maybe....we'll see
Who? As far as the staff goes...I think the potential is there, but they need time and experience. Westhoff is SB quality. Sutton has a lot of experience, but not in the SB. Mangini and Schotty are extremely talented, but inexperienced. The staff needs to win some more and grow a little. So as of right now, no. 2 or 3 years from now, probably.
I think this coaching staff is well capable of getting us to a super bowl! We have seen other "Elite" coaching staff's get there and you see profiles of all of these guy's at a table talking about how they are faring with their new teams and half of them just outright suck! Example: Norv Turner; how long has this guy kept a place in the NFL as a coach based solely on his tenure with the Cowboy’s. I feel sorry for San Diego.
This pretty much is how I feel. I love the coaching staff we have. What an improvement over the prior regime. We may be a player or 2 short of getting to the SB, but I can't rule out the possiblility of getting there this year. We'll see......... I do think it would be a disappointment if we did not make the playoffs this year.
I completely agree. I think we have one of the best coaching staffs in the league, and I think it's pretty obvious that much less competent coaching staffs have made it to and won superbowls. I know it's only year two, but I feel more confident in the Jets future than I have in ages.. maybe ever.
I like what I've seen so far out of this CS, but it's too early to answer this question IMO. I want to see more consistency as well as how they react when things go bad and the pressure is on. Last year we were pretty lucky injury wise and there wasn't a lot of pressure on them to make playoffs. The expectations are MUCH higher this season and the injury bug has already started to hit. Let's see how they react.
