Alot of what people see in him is his mechanics. he is an excellent athlete with an excellent arm, not a noodle arm like Chad. He can get the ball downfield to the open receiver. Those numbers you've posted mean nothing, even other top 10 teams have had QB's have BAD games against these teams. The numbers your posting DO NOT speak to this kids overall skills.
No, I made a list of EVERY QB taken in the first round since 1998. Quite a bit different than just listing the failures. Seems like more than one collosal bust to me. Why? Grabbing the back page of newsday won't help the team win and I don't see why the Jets need to "put a face" on a franchise that in all likelyhood is in full rebuilding mode. The Knicks have a couple of "faces" on their franchise. The Texans and Lions "put a face" on their franchise in 2002. The face of mediocrity. There will be QB's there as well. And as I've said to any mock with only D'Brick taken for the OL, the Jets need more than one new face in the offensive line. What I don't understand is: why would you wait? If the OL class is that great, and you have a team that needs offensive linemen as badly as the Jets do, why not stock up on as many as you can get?
Kurt, you continue to impress me with not only your football accumen, but your understanding of what drafting Cutler means. Rather than repeat what you have already said, I am in total agrrement with what you've stated. ALL of us that would like Cutler understand the risk.... he could bust. Historically, about 44% of first round QB's are. For every Jeff George, there is a Carson Palmer, it's almost 50-50. Those arguments are... pointless. People have dug their heels in..... either they like Cutler or they don't. What I like about him, given all the questions and problems about mechanics and decision making that ALL rookie QB's are subject to, is his arm: strong. Mobility: very good. Size: almost ideal. More than any of that.... he has played through adversity, and still had the mental toughness and competitive fire to be a QB. So, rather than try to continue to make a case for him, I'll just say this: Cutler will be a JET, and our QB of the future, unless the Titans take him at 3. Get used to the idea. The Jets WILL take him at 4, and go O line with the next two picks..... and that is the best thing that could happen to this team.
- This team needs a leader. I dont know what else I can say to try and convince you. You obviously have some lack of understanding of just what the QB position means to a football team. You make it as if we take a QB and we are somehow abandoning the OL position. Hardly the case as we will have a low 2nd round pick and most likely 2 3rd rounders...spots where there will be considerable value at the OL position. - There is a larger gap between the QB's available in round 1 talent wise than round 2, compared to the 1st round OL's and the 2nd rounders. - You wait in order to fill other needs which won't have the same upside/talent level in later rounds. Simple draft theory, man.
So, if the first three picks are all quarterbacks, does that mean the Jets should take Coyle #4? Or maybe Jacobs? No, the Jets should NOT draft a quarterback just for the sake of drafting a quarterback any more than the Knicks should go trade for another guard. Something that would make me believe that Cutler would "lead" the team better than Olson, Jacobs, Coyle or Whitehurst. Because so far, the only place Cutler has "led" his team is home at the end of every regular season. You're telling me the Jets should get a QB no matter how awful of a reach it is and there is nothing you can do convince me of that. I make "little sarcastic world" comments about drafting Coyle or Jacobs at #4. The reason for that is I don't see much of a drop off there. I'd love to see the quote where I ever suggested, hinted or inferred that. You mean like the 49ers of this past season? They bought into the hype of Alex Smith and drafted OL rounds 2 and 3. But now, their OL still sucks (strangely enough, they need help at OT) and their leader looks like he is going to be the latest early QB bust (1 TD and 11 INT's!!!). Between Leinart and Young, yes, but I don't think there is that much of a gap between Cutler and the next couple. Like him, they didn't have great teams, have good arms and need work on mechanics. Cutler has not shown me anything that leads me to believe he can win at the next level. What he has going for him is his arm strength. Well, that is what the next two hang their hat on too. So why is the "gap" between him and them so large? The Jets might be able to grab Jacobs or Coyle in the third or possibly even fourth round!!!
HE ISNT AS BAD AS YOU MAKE HIM SEEM BUT, I DONT THINK HE WILL HAVE A SUCCESSFUL NFL CARREER (sorry for the caps but i dont feel like re-typing that thing)
it isnt even fair to compare the talent at OL in rounds 2-3 last year to the the talent in rounds 2-3 this year. a lot of those guys would have gone in the 1st round last year but because there is so much talen some of them have to fall to later rounds. as for drafting cutler or not we are all gonna have to agree to disagree. some of us think hes the right choice. others think hes a horrible choice. arguing about it and insulting each others knowledge isnt gonna influence what the jets do.

" Crickett Dude you can't honestly sit there and say Alex Smith is a bust... -He plays for the 49ers -He was a rookie -He plays for the 49ers We can't call Alex Smith a bust until he gets a better team.
No, I said he looks like he is going to be a bust. As for playing for the 49ers..... since when was the Jets offense any better?
well our 3rd string qb did a heck of a lot better than 1td to 11ints so either bollinger is a much better qb than smith or our offense is better. no by much but at least our offense seemed to be functioning a bit near the end.
1. You forget which sports market you're in. 2. If he isn't going to play, and the Jets are in a full rebuilding mode, the Jets will probably be in a position where they could possibly get someone such as Brady Quinn next year. And simply put, I'd rather wait and build up the surrounding staff (especially in such a strong OL class) than draft a huge reach just to get a QB.
WOO brother, you brought some fire power. I agree with you 100%. If i get into any trouble, i want you as my lawyer
The Jets do need a face some character some charisma some pizazz something on the same line as a Namath or a Keyshawn. This team is boring it lacks a superstar with integrity.
1. If Mangini is going to bow to the media, then he isn't the right man for the job. 2. If the Jets feel Cutler is the QB of the future, then they shouldn't wait a year to draft him. They will build the OL in rounds 2-4, where there is a stronger and deeper class than ever before.
Nope. No matter how much of a reach taking an OL is...and no matter if we can get him in the 2nd round or not, we MUST take him in round 1. Afterall that's how the steelers, seahawks and colts got so good.
No it isn't the Colts are a perennial choker in the playoffs and also you can't compare Manning and Cutler in terms that Manning is miles ahead of Cutler as a prospect, the Steelers had a team already built and picked up a QB who dropped to them and the Seahawks got Favre's backup to be their QB.
