Graham up in air over Geelong and contract By Reko Rennie March 18, 2006 When the ball flies skyward to open the NAB Cup grand final in Adelaide tonight, former Geelong captain Ben Graham will also be in the air, on a plane bound for New York and his "other" life, in the NFL with the New York Jets. Graham, 32, has been in Australia for three weeks catching up with family and friends and had just enough time to watch his old team win against Carlton in round one of the competition. "Yeah it's been great, I've had a New York Jets film crew out here with me following me around," Graham said yesterday. "I watched the Cats against Carlton and I went to training before the game and caught up for a few beers with Menschy (David Mensch)." Graham retired from Australian rules football in 2004 after 219 games, taking a punt to swap his AFL career for that of an NFL kicker. So far it has paid off; the league's oldest starting rookie finished ninth on the punting ladder in his debut season. He did so well the Jets offered him a $7 million deal over seven years, but he turned it down. "I'm waiting for the new salary cap and the NFL's collective bargaining agreement to be struck, that's going to happen in late March or April," he said. He expects an even better deal will come his way, and is in for the long-term. "A three-to-five-year contract would be great." Graham has missed much about his old life. "Yeah, the meat pies and basically the people, my family and friends," he said. He is confident the Cats will win. "Adelaide are a very competitive and the fittest team in the comp, they have the edge but you can't question the Cats," he said. "I think given Geelong haven't had a good interstate record, all that's going to change."
Someone's got to tell him about the Tuck Shop, in the Lower East Side (1st St. between 1st and 2nd Aves.). Besides the sausage rolls and meat pies, there is also Cooper's ale and Boag's lager. http://www.tuckshopnyc.com/
Give us a review afterwards! Once the weather gets a little nicer, I could walk over for lunch if it's worth it.
In NYC, if it's available somewhere in the world, you can get it here, meat pies included. Even cat meat at the chinese restaurants in China town.... if you want it, you can find it.
Wow! I'm impressed with the concept, although one of the reviews on the link wasn't that flattering. I'd certainly give the tuck shop a nudge if I was in the big apple. Look foward to some reviews(especially the vegemite sandwiches). * I can still remember the faces of my American friends when they came down, on vacation and tried one! PRICELESS:smile:
