It could have been an honest mistake to put him with the rookies or it could have been a little test to see how focused on football Pete Kendall is, what kind of an attitude he's going to bring to the young players around him. Whether it was intentional or not, I think his reaction gives us the answer.
Great post Sec 227. I agree with everything you say. The Jets are hoping someone beats him out and he's a backup. That would be great. There is not one damm thing he can do but whine
I was at camp today, and it was amusing watching him separate himself from the rest of the team. He plays hard on the practice field, but when it's not his turn to play, he's separate from where the rest of the linemen are. Strange.
Guess what, they need to respect their boss and not worry about some malcontent complaining about a contract HE signed. If anything, it will prove to them to not sign a contract you have no intention of honoring...
Kendall still at Jets camp, but still wants trade or release July 29, 2007 HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Pete Kendall thinks his contract dispute with the New York Jets will end soon. It's already gone on longer than the offensive lineman imagined. "This could have been dealt with a thousand ways, all of them positively," Kendall said Sunday. Kendall, in his 12th season, is looking for a $1 million raise on his $1.7 million salary, but the Jets won't budge. One of the major reasons is believed to be general manager Mike Tannenbaum's refusal to set precedent by renegotiating a deal with several years remaining after redoing Kendall's contract -- a four-year deal -- before last season. The tension between the sides is evident at every practice as the 34-year-old Kendall stands apart from his teammates, often with one knee on the ground, and watches as the first-team players take their reps. He's practicing mostly with the second team, while Adrien Clarke goes with the starters. "I don't feel that this is going to go on much longer," Kendall said. "I feel in my heart that I'm going to get moved. I believe that this decision has already been made." When asked why, last season's starting left guard responded simply: "Look at where I take my repetitions." Kendall said he has made repeated requests to be traded or released by the Jets. Rather than hold out, he has been at every practice because he doesn't want to pay the possible $14,000 in fines for every absence. "If that's the type of esprit De corps they want, all I can do is be honest about how I feel," Kendall said. Kendall's agent, Neil Schwartz, also represents cornerback Darrelle Revis, the team's first-round pick who is holding out. Kendall doesn't believe his situation is affecting negotiations between the team and Revis. "I don't think Neil looks at it that way," Kendall said. "Neil always looks at the best interest of the player. He's always done that with me and I believe he'll do that with Darrelle and everybody else." That's likely a good thing. The last thing we need is him spreading his poison to the likes of the younger linemen like Brick, Mangold and Bender.
He would have liked Earhardt's training camps. the players all acted like college freshman and got drunk in the dorms.
You got to belive there going to keep him around. Even if he practices with the 2nd unit's there still running the play book. I would concider it a major mistake to allow this guy to take his knowledge to another team! It does seem a little odd that all this drama is following him around camp. I heard Kendall's Agent is Revises agent is that true.
Kendall expects to be let go -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KENDALL EXPECTS TO BE LET GO By MARK CANNIZZARO July 30, 2007 -- Pete Kendall, the Jets? disgruntled guard, said yesterday he believes the Jets are making an example out of him and he said he thinks it?s a matter of time before they release or trade him. ?I won?t be here,?? Kendall said. ?It?s just a matter of when. I don?t think this is going to go on much longer. I feel in my heart that I?m going to get moved on. I believe that decision has already been made.?? Until something is done to move Kendall, though, he continues to grudgingly practice. If he leaves, he?s subject to $14,000 a day in fines. ?I?m here because I don?t want to pay them not to be here,?? Kendall said. ?All I can do is be honest about the way I feel.?? Kendall, who?s seeking to bring his $1.7 million contract to about $2.7 million, said he has received a lot of support from his fellow teammates and assistant coaches. ?Coaches and players and people in the building have expressed to me that they hope I get what I?m looking for, what I want,?? he said. ?More than a few have expressed that they don?t agree with what?s gone on, but this is a business and those guys understand. I don?t think they necessarily like it.?? Kendall said things went sour when the team refused to negotiate with him before the voluntary offseason workouts began and he opted to stay away. When he got to minicamp in June he was working mostly with the second team - much the way it?s been at training camp. ?(Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum) said he wasn?t ready to make the decision before the offseason program began, and my point to that was if you didn?t know who I was after three years of being here then you weren?t going to figure it out and you weren?t going to make the decision (to renegotiate),? Kendall said. __________________
Kendall can say various players and coaches support him. But no one has come out in public in support of him. Anyway, they need to resolve this and move on.
Hey Pete, you may want to STFU before you get placed on the PUP list like JMac last year. It would be quite amusing, and not beyond a Parcells/Belichick disciple to do such a thing. You may still be "physically unable to perform" on Christmas if you keep this crap up. I mean, it wouldn't be so hard to justify. It's pretty hard to run when you have your foot stuffed so far into your mouth that you're forced to talk from your ass.
What coach in their right mind would support a player over his boss - in this case Mangini? I can't see any assistant coach taking Kendall's side in this dispute. If Mangini wanted Kendall to get more money than Kendall would have gotten it already. If you were a assistant coach would you tell Kendall (who has shown a gift for mouthing off) that you think that Kendall should get his money knowing that it might get back to Mangini?
F-Kendall! He got the upfront money he wanted when he re-worked his deal. Sure he took lower base pay for cap reasons, but he made it up in guaranteed bonus. JERK! He's just pissed that some mediocre FA guards broke the bank with other (stupid) teams. I say keep him until he cracks, then when he continues to be a disturbance put him on suspension for 4 games (like Me-Shawn in Tampa) for being distruptive. JERK!
I had really hoped this could have been resolved by now. But given that those chances look slimmer by the day, is ther any way we can get something (anything at all) for Kendall instead of just releasing him? Clarke, by the way, looked very good to me in yesterday's practice. He's a big guy who makes an intimidating presence between Mangold and D'Brick. I'm no line expert, but he looks like he's really enthusiastically enjoying the opportunity and experience. But my question is, can we get anything at all for Kendall right now? Is it within the rules to trade him for a future 7th rounder or anything? I just don't want a Lamont Jordan-type situation again.
Too bad there are you don't hear of trades in football like you do in hockey and baseball. Otherwise it would Pete Kendall for future considerations.
Pete Kendall for draft picks/conditional picks is not outside of the realm of possibility. Pretty much the same, no?
Kendall is shooting himself in the foot every time he opens his mouth. Mangini loves guys with great character who want to do nothing more than help the JETS win. Right now, regardless of a contract dispute, he is severing all ties with the JETS. Instead of just negotiating to something close to what he wanted and keeping his mouth shut, he's now a free-speaking idiot that forgot his teammate Chad Pennington took a cut a year ago to make room and had the year he had without saying a word. Kandall is a nuisance to the team and I hope Tannenbaum is shopping him as we speak.
