http://www.newyorkjets.com/blog/posts/practice-goes-on-without-leon Practice Goes On Without Leon Published: Sat, July 28, 2:08pm EST By Randy Lange article 07/28 — Eric Mangini didn't wait for the fewer reporters — the herd was thinned out from Friday's turnout due to a single Saturday practice and the Mets' day-night doubleheader — to ask him about Leon Washington. "Leon was excused today for personal reasons," Mangini said at the top of his opening remarks for his early afternoon news conference. Later, in response to a question, the head coach repeated: "This is a personal issue. I know you've got to follow up on it. I'd really like to leave it there." The second-year RB got sick during Friday's first practice and wasn't on the field for the afternoon practice. With Washington out and Cedric Houston having left the team Thursday, the depth behind Thomas Jones will be tested again at today's single practice. Rookie free agent Alvin Banks and late signee Danny Ware will continue to see the ball. So should just-signed sixth-year man Tony Fisher, with the Rams last year after four seasons with the Packers. Two other factors for bringing in Fisher — he has that major college experience (Notre Dame) in his background, and he becomes the 10th player on the Jets with an Ohio hometown, having played his high school ball at Euclid, outside of Cleveland.
ya oughta know by now, those two guys don't tell us "the fans" $HIT Tanny and mangini. They are a pain in the ass! I couldn't care less as long as they win. I was listening to an interview with Mangini the other day. It was Buttle and Legreca. Mangini didn't answer a single question. Every question was followed by a rant which was totally irrelevant to the question. Case and point: Buttle : "Coach, who was your biggest surprise last year?" Mangini. "the great thing about training camp is everybody gets to compete and work hard, we are excited about the season." WTF? Like I said as long as they win, but what a pain in the A$$!
Don't take the conspiracy crap too far. If he had the flu, they would have mentioned he sat out because of it.
It could be flu. I'd be shocked if it was substance-related on the first day of camp after Washington participated so well in the off-season program. You don't bust your ass all off-season and then go out and get pasted the night before camp opens. The most likely explanation is that when you run 80+ guys hard in the heat and humidity of late July and early August a few of them will get sick for a day or two. That's just the odds catching up to you.
2 runningbacks in 2 days? Jimmy raye better have a sit down with these guys and work this out. If we lose Leon, that is huge. Our offense would suffer big because of it.
