leon is not undersized. he's short but not skinny. heck maurice jones is as tall and big as leon is yet he is starting for the jaguars and nobody is complaining about his size.
Thomas Jones is not a pile-pusher, he's a cutback runner. Houston may not have been much as far as numerous carries go, but he would've helped (and did last season) in goal line sets.
Houston gone for good From the Daily News: It looks like RB Cedric Houston is gone for good. On Thursday night, he was placed on the reserve/left camp list. Mangini said the move appears permanent. The coach: "He's made a decision that he wants to move on with the rest of his life. I respect that decision." Now the Jets are thin at running back, with no experience behind Thomas Jones and puking Leon. Mangini says they'll look for help at that spot. Noticed that Detroit dropped Shawn Bryson and a few other teams have a log jam so finding RB #3 should not be too difficult.
Bloody hell we're drinking from the same cup. I would have liked him to stay for that reason , in short yardage situations , pound him up the middle which he could do. Yes we now need another RB .
What about undersized didn't make sense to you? The under, or the size? He's short. Therefore, he's undersized. And I wasn't complaining about it either. I like the kid.
Fair enough Jones isn't going to bruise it right through the middle every down. However, Houston wasn't all that good at pushing the pile. People are giving him far too much credit. All I'm saying is that we didn't lose much when he walked out the door.
I dunno, I always liked Houston. He was a big guy who I though could push the pile. He had decent burst through the gaps, which, along with his size, made him ideal for short-yard and grind-out-the-game situations. Having said that, I agree that he shouldn't be all that hard to replace.
Exactly. I didn't like him, but I didn't hate him either. He was fine for a "get that 1 on 3rd and inches" play. That was about it though. That's a bit one-dimensional for a Mangini player. Again, all I'm saying is that it's not like we're trying to replace a Curtis here. Hell, we're not even trying to replace a Sowell. We're replacing a BJ Askew. I'm pretty sure we'll be okay. If this turns out to be the biggest problem of the year, I'll take it!
dude if you talk to an nfl coach and he thinks you are undersized, it has nothing to do with how tall you are. you cant get any shorter/taller (like losing/gaining weight). its always about your weight. a 6'8 tight end with a 200 pound body frame is what an nfl coach would call undersized. but you cannot call a 5'10-300 pound DT undersized. thats the point i was trying to make. there is no need to act like an ass
Watching his high lights I see a back that could be the starter. Big tough and runs fast. It always seems we find the diamonds in the ruff lately and purge them. I don?t care what any one says Jordan was and still is a beast. He got injured and played poorly yes (with Oakland) but still is a good back. I hope Cedrick doesn?t become the latest back to get shown the door or feel he's not appreciated and leave.
He left the team, that means he has a contract so if he plays he plays for us..otherwise kendall could just leave becasue he does not like it
What are you talking about? Height is just as important as weight in this league. Undersized (in terms of height) players are easily at a disadvantage, especially considering the QB and WR position. Players like Doug Flutie, Drew Brees, Wayne Chrebet, Santana Moss, Steve Smith, etc., while able to overcome the limitations, still would have benefitted from a few more inches.
again, undersized does not = short, but that was the point he was trying to make. if you think leon is too short, then just say it. undersized means a lot more than just being short.
What are you reading? I didn't even mention Leon at all, nor did I say undersized only meant being short (notice how I said that "height is just as important as weight"?). I was merely replying to your post (in particular, the bolded segment): Notice how you're the one saying being undersized has nothing to do with height? Well, as I argued in my previous post, I think that is obviously wrong. Height has a lot to do with "size" and being short is a factor in being considered "undersized".
He has pretty much retired http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/blog/2007/07/and_away_we_go.html
houston leaving is not a loss....this guy was never much at worst we find someone just as good we can always use a fullback in short yardage or goaline situations...
Our replacement: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=1732 Jets signed RB Tony Fisher, formerly of the Rams and Packers, to a one-year contract.
