Training Camp Opened Yesterday(For The Rookies Anyway) July 20th, 2007 by Chris Menn Just so you guys know Jets training camp officially opened yesterday for the rookies. The rest of the team won?t be in camp till the 26th but for now it?s the rookies? turn. The Jets are the first team in the NFL to hold precamp activities. Notable rookies include: Darrelle Revis - He is the Jets 1st round draft choice(14th). Revis? highlights include returning an INTs for a touchdown in 2 consecutive games and also ran back a punt for a TD in his senior year. Look for Revis to become either the Jets 2nd or nickel CB. David Harris - The Jets second round pick(47th), Harris is looking to become the player who plays next to Jonathan Vilma at the ILB position. Highlights include leading his team in tackles(96) and was the one of the main reasons why Michigan had the best rushing defense in the nation.(43.38 ypg) Jacob Bender - The 6th round pick of the Jets(177th), Bender looks like a player who can contribute right away on the O-Line in 2007. The biggest issues for him are that he needs to bulk up and that since he went to a smaller school he?ll have some trouble adjusting to the NFL style of play. Chansi Stuckey - He is the 235th player selected in the draft. Stuckey will surprise people as he won?t be hampered by his foot which hampered his 2006 season. Stuckey could unseat McCareins as the 3rd WR if his foot doesn?t slow him down. Played QB in his first year at Clemson so he could be used the same way Brad Smith was last year. Leonard Peters - An undrafted safety who is best known as one of the hardest hitters in college football. He is raw but a great camp could gain him a spot on the 2007 Jets. His highlights can?t be explained in words so I?ll link you to his highlights.. Jesse Pellot-Rosa - A former college basketball player, Pellot-Rosa signed with the Jets as a WR this offseason looking to be a player in the Antonio Gates mold(basketball player turned NFL player). Highlights include leading Virginia Commonwealth to a upset over Duke in the NCAA tournament in March. I believe he will have a chance at making the practice squad at best. Jason Trusnik - One of the best defensive player in Div. III football, Trusnik set school records in his career at Ohio Northern despite missing 7 games in 2005. Trusnik is one of many hybrid players on the Jets as he plays both defensive end and linebacker but if he is going to make it in the NFL he?ll most likely be a full-time linebacker. The public won?t be allowed to see these rookie activities nor will the media, so it?ll be hard to follow all of the rookies on a daily basis until next week.
Really hoping all of this is true. Bulking up shouldent be that big of a deal with proper weight training, then all he has to do is get up to game speed. It goes without saying that if he can work his way into a starting position he'll turn into a hell of a pick.
I guess, but if a guy selected that low can become a starter (especially in his rookie season) I still say he's a great pick.
Does anybody besides me think brad smith should be a sure 3rd reciever over both McCareins and Stuckey? He is a playmaker, so why keep him on the bench, get the ball into his hands!
im with you, but all the reports of his great mini camp may mean mccareins actually wants to stay in the league.(im skeptic) he'll prolly be gone next year regardless. but he has a chance to prove to another team hes worth signing this year. plus mangini probably doesnt trust smith enough to make him a permanent slot reciever yet but yes moving forward smith should be our slot. we'll see, maybe all these mccareins stories get silenced and brad smith commands the slot spot by the end of camp. who knows. im sure schotty jr still likes smith in the backfield in some packages
