In the Training camp preview in the newest Sporting News Magazine they rank the easiest to the toughest training camps. Easiest - Chicago, Baltimore, and Kansas City <- not a surprise Toughest - New Orleans, Tampa Bay, New York Jets, Detroit Lions
well we can get a real look at herm's camp when Hard Knocks comes back on HBO in August. Can't wait to see that phony on TV again.
If you believe that list it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Bears and Ravens both won 13 games last year and the Chiefs were a playoff team. Jets and Saints were playoff teams but the Bucs and Lions were terrible
its not how hard the TC is, its how you conduct it...fortunately for us Mangini does both well.... Moral of the story: Dont just kick ass, Kick ass the right way!
What it really is, teams like the Bears, Ravens, and Chiefs are much more experienced teams. They have been competing at a high level for a few years now and have a lot more veterans than the Bucs, Lions, or Jets. The veterans wear down from training camp and dont really need it as much. Of course, it's also how the coach wants to run the team, but i would say mostly the experience of the team.
I wonder how long it'll be before Herm finally does away with this whole "training camp" mumbo-jumbo.
That's a good point. Most of the "easy TC" teams are very experienced and not exactly "rebuilding or retooling". Their guys KNOW how to get things done. Most harder working guys either have ball busting coaches or have A LOT of young guys than need to be grinded. Either way BUCS AND JETS TC ALL THE WAY!
Maybe, the Camp this year won?t be as hard, as last year, cuz the majority of this team has played in the system. Last year, it was all about learning and doing new stuff. On D they had to learn a completely new system, on O, ther were a lot of new players (Leon, DBrick, Mangold, Cotch, Chad came back after a long time). This year, it?s pretty much about fine tuning and bringing in some new faces. I wouldn?t be surprised, if camp won?t become as hard, as it was last year.
it doesn't really matter how "hard" camp is these days because the guys all come in to camp in-shape, so they don't need to run or do all the conditioning drills that make a camp hard (though some camps, i.e. jets, do them), so it's mostly about learning/refreshing the playbook. it's not like the '70s where guys may have had another job in the off-season and come into camp not in football shape
In the latest Sporting News as well, it was interesting because they covered every team's needed improvements going into the season. It touched on the Harris vs. Barton battle that Scikotics mentioned in his Defensive preview, among others. It also had a small article about Thomas Jones in there as well; mentioning the time he will spend with Leon on the field. Bullshit that they put NE's preview right above ours. Screw the new receiving core in NE. Stallworth and Welker were seen watching the Notebook during their free time at camp. Moss was reading Keyshawn's "Just Give Me the Ball"
