http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2007/jul/13/pennigtons-next-job-coach/ Something to read while we continue to wait.....
Elwood coached at Clinton, Lake City, and Campbell County before going to Halls when Chad was in the third grade. Chad attended Halls Elementary and Halls Middle School before going to Webb, where he repeated the eighth grade. He graduated from Webb in 1995. What was Chadwick up to in the 8th grade that kept him from the books and making passing grades? Dungeons & Dragons?
Some people take longer to get serious about school, my guess is that he just didn't care in 8th grade.
Nice. Maybe he told the principal it was a privilege to teach in Knoxville, and the principal took it the wrong way.
As far as I can tell, it wasn't because of discipline, emotional maturity, or scholastic reasons. I went through some old articles from the Marshall years, and best that I can piece together from comments from his family/friends/teachers/coaches, he was held back because he was a late bloomer physically.... and I get the impression his dad was steering him towards sports in the first place. Evidently, at the beginning of the first year (!?!) of eighth grade, he was only point-guard-sized with size 13 feet.
I have been to Mangini's camp in Hartford and Pennington has worked it and I can tell you he is tremendous with the kids, during skill work and the afternoon 7 on 7 tourney..He would be a HS excellent coach because he is a very good teacher and his pre-lunch speech to the 700 campers was inspirational and he is a tremedous speaker and communicator.
is that really a joke? i dont think it is. i lived in florida for a few years.....and the dipshits and the rednecks meld right in with what is close to being considered normal.....but you can tell who the rednecks are right away.....mullets a dead giveaway.
Rhodes Scholar finalist-- he competed for a scholarship and did well, but did not make the final cut.
He was held back so he would be better in sports. I'm trying to convince my wife to hold our kids back.
Lots of 8th graders are held back so they have an extra year to grow. This seems to be a common practice down south where people really take high school football seriously.
