Rather than creating a new thread I decided to put this info here. Visiting the Jets yesterday were tight end Jerame Tuman (Steelers), linebacker Brad Kassell (Titans), and receiver/kick returner Antonio Chatman (Packers). I wouldn't mind Kassell and Chatman. I think Chatman wouldn't want to be a #4 WR though. He had some success last year when Walker and Ferguson were injured. But I really like Kasell.
I love the way this duo is running things already....just keep them guessing. Sports writers are gonna hate because they dont talk to them....its great!! Keep up the great work....really confident that they know what they are doing.....
Kassell would be a pretty good pickup IMO. I still think we have a shot to sign McGinest, I just dont see too many other players on the market that would make the transition to the 3-4 as smooth. Still waiting to hear some Tom Ashworth news. And dammit, why is Abe still a Jet??
I agree 100% with the smoke and mirrors. When the last regime was in power, we NEVER heard as many rumours prior to the draft/fa period. This year you have every rumour under the sun, yet MOST of them have not come true. I also like the fact that this regime is actually bringing in players on a consistent basis since FA started. I remember distinctly last season and the couple prior, the only time we brought in a player was if we were ALREADY serious about him (and you heard about it PRIOR TO in all the papers). We have brought in a dozen or so guys thus far to interview and only signed two. It is no longer a foregone conculsion that if the Jets bring you in your automatically going to have an offer. Also, it is no longer in the press (for the most part) until after the person has already been to town. This is how it should be done! Me likes Tanginig  Not sure about Cassell or Tuman, but Chatman is decent although injury prone.
Jets | No interest in K. Johnson Thu, 16 Mar 2006 07:12:21 -0800 Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports the New York Jets are not interested in a reunion with free agent WR Keyshawn Johnson (Cowboys). Jets | Team talking contract with Kassell Thu, 16 Mar 2006 07:07:06 -0800 Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports the New York Jets are talking contract with free agent LB Brad Kassell (Titans), according to his agent. His agent said two other teams are also talking with Kassell. Jets | Team wants to re-sign C. Baker Thu, 16 Mar 2006 07:06:43 -0800 Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports the New York Jets still would like to re-sign free agent TE Chris Baker (Jets). Jets | Team makes offer to A. Chatman Thu, 16 Mar 2006 07:00:13 -0800 Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports the New York Jets have made a contract offer to free agent WR Antonio Chatman (Packers). Probably already posted, but I put it in an existing thread...so no harm done
Kassell is really just a backup LB, and Chatman a 3 or 4 WR. However, Chatman is the deep threat we're missing, and can help with PR and KR duties. He would be a nice pickup.
I really like both kassell and Chatman. The only thing about Chatman is that I don't think he would want to come here and be a #4 WR. He did have some success last year with Walker and Ferguson hurt, so he may want to try to go somewhere where he will get more playing time...maybe Pittsburgh
Kassel has been the starting MLB in Tennessee for a few years, and was in high demand last year (signed an offer sheet with Detroit, Tennessee matched it despite all of their cap problems.) Here, I'd expect him to be a backup when we only go with 3 LBs, but he could win the other ILB job in the 3-4.
So that would leave Hobson and Chatham to win the other OLB job? And most likely some rookies will be drafted...
I agree. If Terry Birdbrain and Herm were still in charge they would have: 1. Proclaimed Pennington and Martin automatic starters for 06 2. Announced who they use for #4 pick 3. Signed some nobody like Lance Legree and bragged him up 4. Resigned Chrebet and Vinny as insurance
First post here...just joined last night and love this site, can't believe it took me this long to find it....I think we should stay where we are at and take Cutler with the 4th pick and then use the rest to take O linemen
I dont think that would happen. I think the job at ILB would go to either Kassell or Hobson...the loser just provides exceptional depth. At OLB wed still need a good rush backer
here's a new one: One player who did visit the Jets was cornerback Renaldo Hill, the unrestricted free agent from Oakland, who once started in Arizona's secondary with Jets starting corner David Barrett.
Wouldnt mind Hill at all for depth, I guess the depth chart would look 1) Miller 2) Barrett 3) Strait 4) Hill Whatever happened to Kassell by the way? Any new info?
lol was that tom or deb sayin that? you forgot that badway would trade up for another bust like robertson
Great Post!! it's true i have no idea what there thinking, it is a bit frustrating b/c there are so many options but they are definately masking what they really plan on doing. i still hope they make a move to trade up and grab leinart at #2, but almost any move will land them a solid player
