Tannenbaum better not get fleeced here by Atlanta. Reading the Newspapers this morning, no one straight out came out with the view that the Jets are holding all the cards here. We'll they are. Atlanta should have been called already and been told, "it's #15 this year for Abraham or we're moving on to Seattle or re-signing him." I could care less that Abraham WANTS to play in Atlanta, what does that mean? For a crummy second round pick, he can sit out the whole season and MAKE NOTHING, which will never happen. He should be told already that if he wants to play in Atlanta so badly, then go convince management that they want him as bad as he wants them, and throw the Jets their first rounder. If not, you go to Seattle or sit the season. PERIOD. If we read in the next couple days that Atlanta got him for a 2nd rounder, it's a disgrace.
At this point, there is absolutely no way he is traded to Atlanta just for its second round pick. Tannanbaum would immediately lose all credibility around the league and he knows it. It is possible that there is a compromise like Atlanta's 2d & 3d rather than its 1st. But, no way we cave in for its second alone.
i agree that there is no way they should agree to what atlanta is offering right now. i also agree that the jets have more power then a lot of people are saying. the jets do have enough cap space at the moment to keep abarham and still sign rookies and free agents, it will be tight but they can do it. so if a team like atlanta wants to try and give us the short end of the stick tanny can always say ok i guess abe will have to stay in new york one more no matter how much he cries about it. i believe in the end the jets will get someones first rounder for him it will just take some time because they have to show a team like atlanta that they will not panic and get a deal dont just for the sake of getting a deal done.
I want the #1 for two reasons: 1) I like that pick better then 2 and 3 2) Atlanta is being extremely unreasonable not offering that for a pro bowl end who is by far the best pass rusher out there and still young.
i totally agree. the jets hold the hammer. ultimately at the end of the day the jets have the final say on abe because he is under contract by the jets. let him hold out and he will ruin any chance of getting the big contract he so desires. stick to your guns tanny!! screw abe!!
Thats agreed. Good post. the Jets right now hold all the cards...Abe will go wherever they trade him by next Friday or he'll be in a Jets uniform next season. They can play hardball with Abe and make him sign with the team that offers the better deal. Atlanta needs to offer more than a second and then I will go for this.
Relax, Abe or Rich McKay isn't in the drivers seat, the Jets are. He's still Jets property. So if Atlanta can't do better than offer us their 2nd round pick then they're not a serious players for Abe. The boys will most likely do the deal with Seattle for their lower first round pick. Peace out.
"How about this, Atlanta's 1st and we switch picks in the 2nd and 3rd?" I would take that if there picks were better. The FO has made this year very interesting. Hope the trade and the draft help us out.
No...not a good trade. We lower in the second lower in the third and pick up an extra first? Don't like it. Clever idea, but i don't really go for it.
Are people willing to throw ATL something back for their 1st rounder? And if so, how much are people willing to give to get the 15 overall? If NYJ send Abe and their 06 3rd round pick for #15 overall, Abe is being valued at the 20-21 range. I would think this is very fair compensation for Abe, and is a deal I would do. We would have #4 overall, #15 overall, #35, and probably a 3rd round compensatory pick for the first day. I think I'd want to move down from 4 and try to get a top 10 pick and a 2nd rounder, if possible, DET is an option having #9 and #40 overall. Having #9, #15, #35, #40 overall in this draft would be amazing. Imagine coming away with Vernon Davis, Winston Justice, Laurence Maroney, and a top defensive player.
that would be pretty nice, but like they first guy sed, we are in the drivers seat with abe, we have nothing to worry about. our front office isnt stupid and they'll go for the best deal. and since we've already agreed wtih seatle on a trade and all abe has to do is agree on a contract with them, well why wouldnt abe want to go to a team who almost and argueably should have won the superbowl last season? its not like seatle has lost anyone cept jurivicious, they sed they were going to match the vikings offer sheet for hutchinson's contract (i think thats his name) and sean alexander resigend with them
The jets shouls not give up any picks at all, they have 0 leverage...the only way We should think of dealing with ATL is if they either give us a first next year to go along with this years 2nd that they are offering, or this years first...we have an offer for a 1st this year from the seahawks and that should be where the bar is set. Until ATL or abe's agents blink nothing more should be said or done. At the worst we bring him back this year and do it all again next year
I'm not worried, I just don't think we NEED to get the #15 overall straight up for Abe for us to get a good deal. I think there are lots of options as long as the Falcons at least try. Hopefully the next few days will answer a lot of questions, but if the Falcons won't budge I'd stand pat. illmatic, so are you saying that there is NO middle ground between the 15 overall pick and 31 overall pick? Surely you see the difference in value.
i disagree though. the worst thing the jets could do is trade abe to the falcons and not get schaub or a 1st round pick. yes this is true, the #31st overall should set the bar and if we get anything less i will be furious. i wouldnt mind abe on the jets next season though, its not like he sucks
First Atlanta has to answer the bell. If we offer our second and third for their first than they will be in the driver's seat. They offer we counter. Right now the Jet FO might be sick and tired of being jerked around by Atlanta and has told them we want this or Abe is a no go.
why the hell would we do that, we havent yet and we definitely wont what most jet fans dont reallize yet, and if they do well they havent showed me they know this, but we are NOT desperate here, we will come out on top no matter who abe goes to. even if he doesnt go anywhere, hes still going to play on our team and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that
We only have leverage if were willing to really keep Abe on the team. Paying 8 Million for a part time player really doesn't make much sense for us. We have some leverage but this is a complex deal and how much better is the 31 pick than a 2nd and another later pick or another 2nd or 3rd next year?
