What did he do in AZ that was similar to this. I've never heard the whole story. I think this fits in his character though as he is a staunch Union guy. He's outspoken about player's salary issues and it creates problems like this. It can also encourage other players to hold out as well. Don't need attitudes like this for 07-08. Leave him behind.
<~~~ drunk now I think this guy's a loser. he used to be cool. Even he has to realize that there's going to be differences when there is a REGEME CHANGE amidst your CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS. How the hell can you assume you will hold your new coach accountable for actions your old (dumb) coach/FO placed on you. Eat the corn out of my back yard Pete Kendall.
Hey Pete K you signed a contract LAST YEAR of your own free will and no one held a gun to your head..HONOR the damn contract. Hey a 34 you can afford to sit out the remaining three years of your contract..You have 0 leverage here Mr. Kendall... You got to know when to hold up..know when to fold up..Know when to walk away..know when to run..You never count your money when your sittin at the table...-Kenny-
And what if every other starter demands $1m for nothing? How do you choose which ones get it and which don't?
He was worth the money last year for , leadership qualities and playing. Lets pay him the balance of the lost monies he incurred when he took the pay cut. Thats a way around stopping this becoming a precident.
Kendall expected to rip Jets execs at camp By Adam Schefter NFL Analyst http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/10224902 Veteran guard Pete Kendall is about to go Alan Faneca on the Jets. Just as Faneca blasted the Steelers over the way they handled his contract situation, Kendall is getting ready to do the same June 15, when he reports to the Jets for their three-day minicamp. If the Jets wish to speak with Pete Kendall this weekend, they'll know where to find him. The opinionated and outspoken Kendall isn't planning to just burn a bridge. He is planning to napalm it. Kendall is furious that he reworked his contract with three years remaining on it for the Jets last year, but they won't do the same for him this year. As an initial sign of his unhappiness, Kendall stayed away from the Jets' voluntary Organized Team Activities, which is something that left New York head coach Eric Mangini unhappy himself. Because of Kendall's absence, there were questions about whether Kendall would attend the upcoming three-day mandatory minicamp. But for Kendall, one of the Jets' offensive co-captains, the decision turned out to be an easy one. Not only did he want to avoid being fined for staying away, but he wants to share his pointed opinions about the way the Jets have handled his contract situation. Last year, the Jets restructured his contract with three years remaining on it, paying him $300,000 more last season but $3.3 million less for the coming season. When Kendall asked to recoup some of the money in the coming season for his stellar performance last season, the Jets told him they do not restructure contracts with three years remaining. Kendall plans to address this issue, and others, in the most heavily anticipated press conference at the Jets minicamp. The entire scene threatens to become similar to the one in Pittsburgh, where Faneca ripped the team that drafted him. Most NFL observers believe that, sooner or later, the 33-year-old Kendall is destined to be either traded or released. Whichever it is, a logical landing spot for him would be the Miami Dolphins, whose general manager, Randy Mueller, used the 21st selection in the 1996 draft to select Kendall back when he was making personnel decisions for the Seahawks. Miami lined up at its most recent minicamp with Chris Liwienski at left guard and Rex Hadnot at right guard. Kendall would provide the Dolphins with an upgrade on a line determined to protect recently acquired quarterback Trent Green. But Miami is going to have to wait for the situation in New York to heat up and then settle down. June 15 could be the day. Kendall's opinions were once of the reasons he wound up being released from Arizona in the opening days of the 2003 training camp, and now, there's a chance the same could happen again. And there is one other potential lingering effect to the Kendall situation. Kendall's agent, Neil Schwartz, also represents the Jets' first-round pick, Darrelle Revis. Usually, one troubled negotiation does not bleed into another, and neither side intends for that to be the case. But neither side intended to allow the Kendall situation to turn into what it will June 15.
But he didn't take a pay cut. He took a cut in base salary in exchange for an increased bonus. He can't parlay that into another increase here. Of course he's entitled to ask for a raise, but when the answer is no, he should have accepted that and dropped the issue.
OK , take that into the balance of things and pay him the difference if any... I still think because of the way he restructured and the way in which he conducted himself last season that he is deserving of some kind of recompence. Like it or not he wasn't an ordinary 'Joe' in the team , he was/is a leader. Getting pissed off with the whole episode to be honest
then you don't understand this jet management. they do not overpay anybody. they don't think he is worth what he is asking ---if they did he would get it. bravo to the jets. screw kendall. he is just not very good any more. you don't squander cap room.
Looking for Kendal's replacement? Saw this today... The Ravens are scheduled to attend University of Nebraska offensive tackle Chris Patrick?s campus workout today. A 6-foot-4, 300-pounder who reportedly has 5.1 speed in the 40-yard dash and projects to guard, Patrick?s application for the supplemental draft was recently approved by the league office. Other teams expected to attend the workout include: the New York Giants, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins.
Maybe this video may change your mind I'm still at the belief that he should be paid what hes owed. (another video with TJ , Harris and Vilma as well) http://www.msg.com/jets2.jsp
Kendall keeps talkikng about the stellar season he had last year. But if he had sucked last year or got hurt and missed time do you think Tangini would be having press conferences about Kendall giving money back?
I normally don't side with players but in this case the Jets need to do right by Kendall. He took a voluntary paycut midseason played hurt and stabilized a line with 2 rookie O linemen in key positions (LT and Center). IF it was ok for the Jets to renegotiate why shouldn't Kendall be allowed to get a new deal. Promises were supposedly made during this off season that are now forgotten or even worse outright lies. The Jets need to resolve things quickly. Unforunately I can't see either side wanting Kendall to play for the Jets. The Jets have little leverage in trading him so his outright release may be the quickest and best option at this point.A disgruntled vet will poison a team fast.
I agree. One bad apple and all that , (not that hes that). This is fast turning into a PR disaster for the Jets.
He did not take a pay cut! He made 5.2 mil last year. He is not worth the rasie nor should he get it. Pissing Mangini off was not a good idea, now if they do release him I bet it will be late in camp when its harder for him to find a spot. Hope they trade him for a 4th at worst. How does Kendall have any leverage he signed a contract thru 2009 a year ago andnow wants a raise, screw him, go back to Boston with the rest of the assholes
