can revis play some strong safety as well? in case if erik coleman has a rough patch, revis can step in and put dyson and barrett back at the corners.

Although I know where you're coming from, I think it would be detrimental to his or any rookie CB's development to teach them a new position. It already usually takes 2-3 years for top talent corners to hit their full stride coming out of the draft, and I feel like learning a new position would only lengthen that. Let Eric Smith take care of SS if Coleman can't do it.

revis can not play safety. he can play LCB + RCB + NCB as well, but thats about it. thats his "versatility". and like fireguy said, eric smith will probably beat out coleman during training camp/pre season, so there is no need to switch our future no.1 corner to safety. especially not STRONG safety.

well everytime when smith was in there last season he made big plays. in coverage (picks), he made some great hits (vs miami) and i think he even blocked a punt on special teams

Eric Coleman will not be the starting safety this season. IMO it will be Eric Smith.

I don't understand why some people are down on E. Smith. He was graded as one of the best overall athletes coming out of the draft last year. He has some injury concerns which was why he was considered a reach. Other than that I think people sell him short.

y is everyone that down on Coleman? He also had to play in a new System. Y can Vilma have a bad year, and is protectet by the new System and coleman is ripped apart? Let?s compare Coleman?s stats to this year?s pro bowlers:

    Coleman:
Year Team G Total Tkl Ast Sacks Int Yds Avg Lg TD Pass Def
    2006 New York Jets 16 101 70.0 31 0 1 3 3.0 3 0 3

Yeah, he had more Big Plays during his first two seasons, but he wassn?t that bad. I belive he can step up again, we will have one of the best Safety duos in the League. And Smith is a very good backup, who can push Coleman in Camp and provide good depth.

coleman gets beaten a lot in coverage and he doesn't play the run very well, he misses tackles. eric smith is an excellent tackler, he is a run stuffer, and thats what we need next rhodes. coleman however stepped up at the end of the season and made some pretty good plays (against the pass and against the run), so we will have to wait and see what happens in training camp :)
