Hurrah , OTAs are valuable hmy: June 11, 2007 Jets brass doesn't mess around when it comes to off-season workouts Jeremy Shockey could never play for the Jets. Mike Tannenbaum and Eric Mangini value their off-season workout program too much. As we heard last week, Shockey doesn?t believe it?s important to be with his teammates during the spring practice and conditioning sessions. He?d rather be in Miami, and nobody is going to change his mind. ?Next year it's going to be an issue again, and the next year it's going to be an issue again,? said Shockey. Shockey just doesn?t get it and he never will. So much is accomplished during the off-season program, and the Jets basically don?t want anybody on their team who isn?t going to participate. They make that clear to every free agent and draft prospect they interview. If you aren?t interested in the off-season program, they aren?t interested in you. They will only sign or draft players who will partake. The only Jet no participating this year is Pete Kendall, who is embroiled in a contract dispute. Last year?s attendance was 100 percent. And if you don?t think that helped the Jets finish a surprising 10-6 last year, you are kidding yourself. ?This time is invaluable,? said Mangini last week. ?The rookies are getting used to the way we do things here. It is valuable for the veterans because we do put in a lot of new things, try a lot of new things. It?s a springboard for training camp.? Football is all about being on the same page, and the off-season works wonders in this department. And you can?t get on the same page with your teammates at Nobu on South Beach.
No wonder he has a premium site. Imagine all of the fluffy happiness you can get for just the price of a cup of coffee a day?
If the G men moved their spring work outs to South Beach, everyone would be happy. Sounds simple to me.
Why do people keep writing that Shockey and Plaxico never come to mini-camp? In the past, yes, that's been true. But they showed up this year.
Because Shockey was quoted in a paper saying he works out in Miami because of the natural turf field, temps above 40 (yes, he said this), etc etc. Shockey made it an issue.
Does this guy ever actually report news? Cuz I could have sworn I read this about nine thousand times over the past year
Yeah, he has made it an issue since he was drafted. All I'm saying is that THIS YEAR, Shockey and Plaxico showed up to mini-camp and sports writers keep talking about them as if they continue to practice apart from the team.
