Team first on display
After visiting the Jets OTA program on Friday, I must admit that second year coach Eric Mangini runs a tight ship. They are working hard and they look impressive.

The most important thing - and this might be a hint to the New York Giants - is that everyone is on the same page and working with one goal in mind: to get better. There are no players taking time off or making plans to do other things.

Only one player is missing and that's Pete Kendall because of a contract dispute, which is understandable. Conversely, the Giants are without Jeremy Shockey and Plaxico Burress at their OTA’s.

Unlike Eli Manning, Chad Pennington has all his weapons at his disposal.

I am not saying the Jets are going to be a playoff team again, but it sure looks like they are working towards being one. With Thomas Jones running around and learning the system, that will sure benefit this team come training camp.

Is it hard not to notice Jones. With his sleeves rolled up to show off his huge biceps, he is going to add to the Jets, a brand of football they have not had since Curtis Martin was healthy. He is a running back who will say ‘give me the ball’, block and get out of the way, which will allow the Jets to become a physical team.

Although the Jets have more defensive ends then most teams, they are all out there flying around. You get the feeling with a little luck and a healthy club, that the Jets might be building something. First round draft pick Darrelle Revis looks the part. He is tall, solid, smart and eventually- once he learns Bob Sutton defense - he is going to be able to help the club, not only as a contributor in the nickel but eventually as a starter opposite of Andre Dyson.

So for the Jets right now it is all team first and it is pretty refreshing to see a team in New York put the team concept ahead of individual concept.

I read in ESPN Magazine that Plaxico actually showed up to minicamp this year.
