This isn't about when Yankees are playing the Mets, it's about when the Mets are playing anyone in Shea and people are decked out in Yankees gear. If I were to walk into Yankee stadium with Mets stuff on in a game irrelevant to the Mets, I'd expect the same anti-Met stuff.
Oh well if that's the case then i'd certainly agree 100%. It's very stupid to go to a Mets-Marlins games wearing Yankees gear. I misunderstood dave if that's what he was saying.
I don't get why people do that in general, but you see it all the time. You go to a Jet-Miami game and there's some jerkoff there in a Rams jersey. Why? I never got that.
It's always odd, but sometimes understandable. I went to the Mets-Nationals game on Independence Day '05 and there were quite a number of Yankees fans there. They started egging on the Mets fans. Fortunately, the Mets won the game. I had to at one point remove my Reyes shirt to reveal my YANKEES SUCK shirt. I will be attending the Mariners-Athletics game on 7-7-07. It just may happen that I'll be wearing a Mets shirt and/or hat.
Guys, I know absolutely that the timing of this thread is completely off base, it's just something that I've been meaning to make a thread about for a few weeks and the chants in Toronto tonight reminded me of it. For reference, I was using the Mets-Brewers game as a reference because I was at one of those games and some guys a few sections up from us started it completely unprovoked. I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who finds it absolutely retarded. It's like some of us having a "Giants suck" chant in the middle of a Jets-Browns game with no provoking in my eyes. On a side note, if there is a retarded Yankee fan provoking the chant then by all means I'm good with it, it's just in these unprovoked instances that seem silly to me. It's been said on here before but a general Mets stereotype is that they're more concerned with the Yankees than their own team, and this isn't helping. And also, to whoever insinuated it, why the hell would I want to suck up to Yankee fans?
"Yankees Suck" gets chanted in every stadium that they play, not just Shea Stadium. Thats just a fact. I believe alot of it has to do with Yankee fan arrogance. I mean, on a national level, the Yankee fan is perceived as young, rich (like the team), and having a sense of entitlement. Please note I said perceived as..."rich, etc." I know there are hard working Yankee fans that do not have a sense of entitlement, but that is the perception. Just like the "lady" said in the New York Post about Orlando Cabrara - "if he is not a Yankee, I don't care what he says". THATS ARROGANT.
As I said in the OP, my issue is less with them chanting it during Yankees Mets games as it is during completely unrelated games. I understand that a shitton of Yankee fans have tremendous arrogance and deserve whatever's coming to them, but I don't see the need to start the chant when you're at a game that is in no way related to the Yankees.
What are you, a Shea regular? If I were you I would worry about your own team breaking that tie with the D-Rays, we'll worry about getting our house in order with our cheers. I would say that there are occasional unprovoked Yankees suck cheers (which ARE embarrassing, particularly now that the Yankees are so bad they don't deserve an ounce of attention from fans of a 1st place team), but the vast majority have to do with some loser deciding to wear every Yankees item in his closet to a weekday Met game against the Marlins.
Maybe you could help me on how to deal with it seeing how as a Met fan you have plenty of experience on shit seasons. .
Well I can tell you, it makes a long summer. Watching baseball games that have no meaning can suck. You can look at players individual accomplishments or development, but in the case of the Yankees, what players are you going to watch develop? Maybe Philip Hughes once he comes back. You can look forward to the Yankees bringing up young players in September. You can look forward to July 31 and hope they trade some old, over the hill players for prospects.
Yank fans have class and dignity that's why they don't condone cheating like the GIAMBALCO and Bobby Abroo.

Fellow Yankee fans, there is one thing that I can absolutely assure you of.... That is the Yankees are the Most Hated team in baseball by fans of other teams. You might get a few different answers, from Dodgers/Giants fans or Cubs/Cardinals fans but in those instances, the Yankees would be in the top 3. Its like being a heel in wrestling. Take it for whats it worth. And by the way, right now, the Yankees do suck and deserve any crappy chant they are getting.
