doesnt matter if he hanged on too long. the guy was a staple of the franchise for a long time. whether or not he shouldnt have played the last yr was up to the coaching staff. theyc couldve cut him if he was holding them back that bad, they displayed his old age he just wanted to play. 3rd in tackles in Jets History. 1200 tackles in 143 games. thats an average of 8.4 tackles a game. the guy was a machine. it was just obvious he lost speed in the last yr or two. either way the guy was great.
definitely favorable. Our defense really got better when he got healthy (which was the major issue w/ him after the first few years). Never lived up to the draft pick, but was very solid. I never had any issue with him.
He gets another yawn. Came out of FSU with great rave reviews & was nothing more then average. Just another typical very, very average NYJ player that was average or below average
This is a guy who was suppossed to be great who was hurt a lot and was solid but never the spectacular player he was thought to be when he came out of college. Normally I would have voted favorable but in this case he gets neither from me as I view him as a bit of a dissapointment.
Jones came during a transitional time when Lb's were switching from big, hard hitting run stuffers, to sideline-sideline, undersized speedy guys fit for the cover 2 and covering lots of ground. Unfortunately Jones didn't fit that bill, and that combined w/ some injury problems, grounded his career. He was solid, but never lived up to his high draft status
I have to agree with Winston here. MJ definitely had his moments, but overall I consider his tenure a disappointing one. Perhaps that's because I bought into the draft-day hype and expected him to be great. Had a few good years, but overall I think he was average at best, which led me to vote "negative" (because greatness was expected).
Shade Tree was a bandaid his first couple of years, then picked it up (with the arrival of Parcells). Wasn't as good as Mo Lewis.
I agree he never lived up to his hype and draft status, but after injuries the first few years he became a solid player for us. I wish he was around for the 1998 season, he missed that whole year with an injury. Good, not the great player he was touted to be coming in, but favorable.
Coming out of college he was supposed to be the next dick butkis...but he definitely turned out to be a very good player for us. Definitely favorable.
Wasn't phenomenal, but good enough to have a positive opinion of him no question. Obviously though was never the best LB on the team.
He was a good player, but never changed a game. You never heard of Jones mentioned as the focal point of the defense like guys like Urlacher and Zach Thomas are today.
Got off to a rough start, but after he quit drinking and took his physical shape seriously, had a bunch of real solid years. Maybe not a superstar, but he was a guy you could count on in the middle
Marvin Jones and Mo Lewis were the last Jet linebackers who could make an opposing player cry. Barton's a close as we have to that right now and he's not that rough.
That's gonna be D-Rob's story too. Pretty good football player but not worth what it took to get him. Jones was a good solid linebacker for a decade. If he'd been a 2nd round pick we'd all think we made out like bandits getting him.
