Ohio Northern defensive end Jason Trusnik was credited with 50 solo tackles (101 total) and 18 sacks in 2004. May 1, 2007 By Tim Glon ADA — Senior two-time All-American defensive end Jason Trusnik (Macedonia/Nordonia) signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets of the National Football League. Trusnik is now the second Ohio Northern player currently under contract with an NFL team. Jamal Robertson is with the Atlanta Falcons after spending two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and the Carolina Panthers. While at Ohio Northern, the 6-5, 250-pound Trusnik was a two-time All-American and a two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree. He participated in the inagural Texas vs. The Nation Division I-A all-star game in February, registering six tackles and a half a sack to lead The Nation to a 24-20 win over Texas. He played in the Aztec Bowl in December, leading Team USA to a 28-7 victory over Mexico in Aquascalientes, Mexico. He had eight tackles, two sacks and was named one of the co-captains for Team USA. He ended the 2006 season with 60 tackles and team-highs of 11 sacks and 19.5 TFL. In his career, he is ONU’s all-time career leader with 43 sacks and 85 TFL. He also ranks sixth all-time with 277 tackles. http://www.onusports.com/Football/Releases/jets.html more pics of Jason http://www.onusports.com/Football/gallery/index.html Also pics of the rest of the UFAs http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/articles/show_permalink/qb-ratliff-among-offensive-fas
ANALYSIS Positives: Has a tall, lanky frame with good lower-body thickness, especially in his thighs, but his frame might be at maximum growth potential … Good at executing stunts and plays both end positions, showing enough quickness to have a valid shot at converting to an outside linebacker in a 3-4 alignment … Has an explosive initial burst and gets excellent leverage off the snap thanks to his quickness … Holds the point firmly in run defense and knows how to get his outside arm free to neutralize the double-team coverage … Can flatten and get down the line with ease … Relentless in his pursuit and is a highly instinctive player with a good grasp of the defensive schemes … Hard worker in the training room, adding more than 40 pounds of bulk since his freshman season … Comes off the snap at a good pad level and gets across the blocker's face, using his hand strength to defeat blocks … Maintains balance in pursuit and has the ball-recognition skills to chase down backs from behind … Uses a classic arm-over move in his pass rush technique and shows superb body lean to pressure the quarterback … Uses his hands with forceful authority and consistently finishes plays … Takes good angles closing and it is rare to see him get reckless in his play … Very effective on stunts and has the hand placement to toss aside offensive linemen at the level he played in (might not have that success in the pros, though) … Does a good job of breaking down in space. Negatives: Lacks ideal lateral agility, as most of his plays are made in front of him … Lacks upper-body development, and while he dominated at his level of play as a pass rusher, he will need to play at a lower pad level in the pros to prevent blockers from getting into his chest and washing him out of the play … While he's an instinctive player, he sometimes has problems with his reads and locating the ball working through trash … More of a finesse-type rather than an all-out aggressor, as he lacks the mass and leg strength to take on an offensive lineman at the next level … Does not have the lower-body bulk or leg drive to stay low in his tackles … When he gets upright coming off the snap, it allows the blockers to get a piece of his jersey to knock him off stride. Compares To: Kamerion Wimbley, Cleveland -- Unless utilized as a situational pass rusher in a 3-4 alignment, Trusnik has probably seen the last of his playing time on the defensive line … He lacks ideal bulk and lower-body strength to play with his hand down and any attempts to add more weight will impact his quickness … He will have to adjust to playing linebacker, but has minimal experience dropping back in man coverage … He is certainly worth a look on the draft's second day, but will need time to mature physically and adjust to playing a new position at the next level. INJURY REPORT 2005: Missed the final seven games after suffering a broken bone in his right foot vs. Miskingum (Sept. 24). AGILITY TESTS Campus: 4.66 in the 40-yard dash … 1.59 10-yard dash … 2.7 20-yard dash … 4.17 20-yard shuttle … 6.78 three-cone drill … 36-inch vertical jump … 10-foot-2 broad jump … Bench pressed 225 pounds 18 times … 300-pound bench press … 545-pound squat … 335-pound hang clean … 32?-inch arm length … 9 7/8-inch hands … Right-handed.
If he was a 2 time all american, why was he not drafted? Or is ohio northern division 1-aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Who the hell plays football for Mexico? The first thing I thought when I saw he was in the Aztec Bowl was who exactly was on the other side? Lenny Randle, a pretty good little thirdbasemen in his time, wound up going to Italy at the age of 33 when his baseball career was over. He was a .257 career hitter who had good strike zone judgement and some speed but little power. Over the next 3 years he hit about .480 in the professional Italian league and was far and away the best player in the league. I remember seeing him interviewed by ESPN as kind of a whacky little featurette, more Chris Berman personality fodder than baseball really. The one thing that really stuck out in my mind from the interview was his description of the pitching and the umpiring. He said nobody could throw more than about 82 MPH and get the ball anywhere near the plate consistently. He said fastballs were all he saw because nobody had developed a breaking ball yet. He also said that any pitch that was within a foot of the plate was a strike when he batted, including a few that bounced and went through the strike zone afterwards. He said he was really upset about that until the first time he swung at one of those and got a triple and nobody said anything about it. Thereafter he just swung at anything he could reach and demolished the league.
