Updated: May 7, 2007, 11:31 AM ET Blaylock inks deal as third RB in Redskins' backfieldBy Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2862678 Unconcerned that three veteran tailbacks might represent a crowd on the depth chart, the Washington Redskins have reached a contract agreement with free agent Derrick Blaylock, who auditioned for the team at its weekend minicamp. Contract details were not immediately available. Blaylock, 27, will further bolster a position that already includes Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts, one of the NFL's best tailback tandems. In 2006, Betts started nine games after Portis, the usual starter, was injured, and rushed for a career-best 1,154 yards. The third tailback on the Washington roster last season, former Atlanta first-round draft choice T.J. Duckett, logged just 38 carries. Blaylock, who might return kickoffs, apparently is not worried about the potential lack of work playing behind Portis and Betts. A six-year veteran, Blaylock played the past two seasons for the New York Jets after four years in Kansas City. While with the Chiefs, he played under current Redskins associate head coach Al Saunders, then the offensive coordinator in Kansas City, who recommended him to Redskins' officials. Blaylock is therefore familiar with the offensive design. In 51 games, including eight starts, Blaylock has carried 198 times for 820 yards and 10 touchdowns. The former Stephen F. Austin standout, who entered the league as a fifth-round pick in the 2001 draft, has 53 receptions for 520 yards and two touchdowns. Blaylock's best season was in 2004, in Kansas City, when he rushed for 539 yards and eight touchdowns on 118 carries.
Just call them the Jetskins Redskins | Hilton signed Mon, 7 May 2007 12:18:18 -0700 Paul Sheehy, of ProStar Sports Agency, has confirmed to KFFL the Washington Redskins have signed free-agent TE Zach Hilton (Jets). Terms of the deal are not currently available.
Anyone remember the huge season he had before NY signed him? I think he had a pretty decent yr filling in for Priest Holmes who was injured in KC. (but then again it was the KC offensive line).
