Thank god Cashman had the foresight to not grant Rivera the extension that the whole world wanted to give him in Spring Training.
Just wondering, Why are you so concerned with the Yankees? Don't you have your own baseball team to talk about. It just doesn't make any sense.
Exactly. With a team doing as poorly as their are right now, they need a spark. This would have been the perfect way to fire up a team.
I didn't get to see the game, but I did see the replay this morning of the play on the news. I also read an article on ESPN about it. Mattingly couldn't see the play, and since no one on the field argued, he figured there was nothing wrong with the call. If Cano didn't argue because he didn't want to get thrown out, what can you do as a manager? (Besides, arguing a call like that doesn't fix it. There's no instant replay in baseball.) Call it Yankees apologism, but there was no reason to argue. The more significant point is that the Yankees didn't score. That's why they lost. They got a quality start from yet another rookie, and didn't back him up with run support. It's the 80s Yankees all over again. The run support is feast or famine, and usually runs counter to the pitching performance. (It's ugly how much this team mirrors the teams of the 80s. It scares the piss out of me.) As for Mo, has anyone thought about the fact that he pitches once, maybe twice a week? He is a different sort of pitcher than 90% of the league. He needs to work 5-6 times a week to be successful. It sounds stupid, but that's the way he's always been. There was a stretch a week or two ago where he was pitching every other day and he was his old self. (Not totally, but close enough.)
or maybe it's just his annual slow start? he had been pitching well until last night and 1 pitch got away from him.
I agree with not arguing. It's pointless. The umpires will NEVER, EVER change a call based on a manager arguing it. Unless the guy is going to go out and take first base or something similarly hilarious, he should just stay in the dugout.
Lloyd McClendon. Second only to Valentine wearing a fake mustache in funniness. This was my avatar for a while a couple years back...
Oh sh**, hahaha. I've never seen that. But I know a Yankees manager back in the 80s got ejected for picking up a base and flinging it. I'm pretty sure it was Pinella, but it could have been Martin. DAMNIT, WHERE THE HELL IS 10P10???
Oh no. He didn't throw it. He took it into the clubhouse and refused to give it back. They had to go find an extra base and use that. It was absolutely hilarious.
So it only took Torre 3 weeks longer then the rest of the world to figure out that Abreu shouldn't be in the 3 hole. And he gets 7.5 million for that?
It all started when Poasdo threw out the baserunner tryin to steal 2nd, that guy was out by a mile, and the Umpires call him safe? I mean WTF?? that was our downfall right there, even though Mariano pitched another SHI**Y Inning!
