ATLANTA (AP) -- Jacksonville Jaguars defensive back Amhad Carroll was arrested on weapon and drug charges early Saturday on suspicion of being involved in a disturbance with a weapon, authorities said.

The 23-year-old Carroll was questioned by police after he was pointed out as someone involved during a disturbance at an Atlanta restaurant, Atlanta police spokesman officer James Polite said.

Polite said Carroll acknowledged to police that he was carrying a 9mm pistol. Police then searched his car and found 11 pink tablets that were believed to be ecstasy. He was arrested and charged with carrying a weapon without a license, possession of drugs and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Carroll, an Atlanta native, was released Saturday on a $7,000 bond.

Seriously it is bad for the league when it seems like every week another player gets arrested.

I agree w/ Colin Cowherd on this one...........Some young guys get to the NFL, come from tough back grounds, and unfortunatley still feel they have to keep some kind of "street cred". Unfortunate. I have been called racist for that comment, but often times street roots run deep and people feel certain loyalty to a former way of life. How else can you explain Mike Vick, Pac-man, Chris Perry, etc...etc.....

When will authorities realize that ecstacy is the easiest way to get a stripper to go home with you, and NFL players just need to have them on hand. Get over it, Atlanta PD.

I don't think he was supporting it, I think he was merely trying to make sense as to why people do what they do.

It's gonna take a little while and some ruined careers before everybody understands that felonies and football do not mix.

Remember Steve Howe? He threw away millions because he literally could not stop putting drugs up his nose. Today a player in his situation would get busted once and he'd have his agent all over him, getting him into rehab and making sure he stayed clean afterwards. When was the last time a player was banned for life for drugs?

You can explain them by being stupid people who don't appreciate their place. It has nothing do with street cred, for every idiot like those who make mistakes there are 100's who come from the same backgrounds and don't. Please don't give me that they don't know any better or they are trying to maintain appearances. Stupidity is the same no matter the color - because when a player of a different race gets into trouble he's looked at as stupid

Broncos' Kircus Hit With Restraining Order
Wideout Was Arrested for Assault Monday
    By ARNIE STAPLETON
    AP Sports
DENVER (May 22) - A judge issued a restraining order against Broncos receiver David Kircus on Tuesday, a day after he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault at a weekend party.

Details of the order were not immediately disclosed, and neither Kircus nor his attorney, Harvey Steinberg, would comment after a brief hearing in Arapahoe County district court in suburban Centennial.

Kircus, who resumed his NFL career last season after spending a year away from football working in a fast-food shop, is free on $6,000 bail. If convicted, he could be sentenced to two to six years in prison.

The restraining order bars Kircus from drinking or possessing alcohol. Steinberg argued against that provision, but the judge let it stand and said it could be challenged again Friday, when Kircus is due back in court.

Kircus, wearing a brown suit, said nothing during Tuesday's hearing.

Sheriff's investigators said Kircus got into an argument when he was asked to leave a party early Sunday, hit a man and broke bones in his face. The man was treated at a hospital. His condition and the extent of his injuries were not available, and his name was not released.

Coach Mike Shanahan said the team will await the outcome of the legal process before making any decision on Kircus' status.

"Obviously, if he didn't handle himself the right way, he won't be with us," Shanahan said Monday.

Kircus met with Shanahan on Monday before appearing in a photo lineup at the sheriff's department while his teammates participated in passing camp. The coach said what Kircus told him was "a much different story from obviously what came across from the other person."

Kircus is a backup receiver and return specialist who joined the team last season. He had nine receptions for a team-leading 20.8 yards per catch and returned six punts for a 14.3-yard average last season.

He is the second Broncos receiver to run afoul of the law this offseason. Brandon Marshall was arrested in March on suspicion of domestic violence.

    Kircus confident he'll be cleared

By ARNIE STAPLETON, AP Sports Writer

DENVER (AP) -- Broncos receiver David Kircus says he's certain he'll be cleared of an assault charge stemming from a fight that landed him in jail and sent a 26-year-old man to the hospital.

"Well, sure I'm confident. ... That's why I wanted to take that lie detector test, to show how confident I was that I wasn't in the wrong," Kircus said after practice Wednesday in his first public comments since his arrest on May 21.

Coach Mike Shanahan, who had pledged to release Kircus if it was determined he was at fault in the fight, said Tuesday that Kircus would remain on the team after passing a polygraph administered by an FBI expert last week.

Kircus said he told Shanahan he didn't throw the first punch and was acting in self-defense. He volunteered to take a lie detector test to show him he was telling the truth.

"I told him I would do whatever it takes to get the team and the coaches to believe me because it was the truth and I had nothing to hide," Kircus said. "... I said, 'You know what, if I fail this test then you can kick me off.' That's how confident I was.

"I didn't know what to expect from the test, but I knew I was going to tell the truth, so I was 100 percent confident that I was going to pass it."

Kircus faces a second-degree assault charge that carries a prison term of two to six years. He is accused of punching the man and telling him "You don't know what I'm capable of" after a party in suburban Denver on May 20. Kircus is free on $6,000 bail.

Kircus said he's guilty only of poor judgment.

"Well, my bad judgment was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I didn't break any laws by going where I was. I was out at a time at night that I shouldn't be out at that time. That's obvious. And as I'm growing up and I'm becoming an adult -- it's a slow process for some people -- it's just one of those things you learn from," Kircus said.

Kircus is a backup receiver and return specialist who joined the team last season. He had nine receptions for a team-leading 20.8 yards per catch and returned six punts for a 14.3-yard average last year.

"Another reason why I wanted to do this is I didn't want to lose reps," Kircus said. "This is a long process and it takes six months to a year. So, if there's any doubt in the coach's mind or even the players' minds, then my reps are going to go down and it's not going to look very good for me to be here.

"So, I wanted to get it out of the way right away just in their eyes that ... I want you guys to believe in me and know that I did defend myself."

Everyone knows the difference between right and wrong , its just some people are obsessed with how they look and sometimes 'right' isn't cool enough.

Odell Thurman can be added but this moron is already on suspension for violating the substance abuse policy. Fuck this guy, suspend him for life.

Suspended Bengals LB Odell Thurman accused of assault in Georgia

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Suspended Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman has been accused of kicking and hitting two men in his Georgia hometown during the weekend. He has not been charged with a crime, but a magistrate will hear testimony Friday to determine if charges should be filed.

The NFL suspended Thurman for the first four games of 2006 after he skipped a drug test. The suspension was extended to a full season following his arrest on a drunken driving charge in September. Thurman is one of nine Cincinnati players to be arrested in the past year.

Two men filed a complaint Sunday with police in Monticello, Ga., southeast of Atlanta, accusing Thurman of assaulting them early Sunday following an argument at a home, Jasper County Chief Magistrate Ken Jackson said Tuesday. The men accused Thurman's brother, Willie Thurman, of threatening them with a gun.

"Evidently, this was some type of party in the wee hours of the morning," Jackson said.

Because the allegations were not reported quickly and police were unable to conduct an immediate investigation, Jackson said, a county magistrate will hear testimony Friday to determine if anyone should be charged.

Messages seeking comment were left with Odell Thurman's agent and with the NFL.

Thurman pleaded no contest to the drunken driving charge in February. Last Friday, a judge in Cincinnati suspended all but six days of a 90-day sentence and ordered Thurman to serve those six days at a treatment center.

Thurman played two seasons at Georgia and was drafted by Cincinnati in the second round of the 2005 draft. He led the Bengals in tackles that season with 148.

Thurman can apply for reinstatement for this coming season, although earlier this year coach Marvin Lewis refused to talk about whether Thurman still figured in the team's plans.

Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said Tuesday the team had no comment on the latest allegations.

"His situation is controlled by the league, he's not officially on our roster," Brennan said. "Since his possible reinstatement is in the league's hands, we would defer any comment to the league."
