With the bevy of new receivers in NE, in all likelihood, Troy Brown will not be re-signed. If he becomes a free agent, do you think the Jets should sign him?
Assuming Belichik let's him go I have no doubt the Jets will look at him very hard for 2007. He has played in both the offensive and defensive schemes in New England. Why wouldn't you bring him in to help develope the young guys you have drafted on both sides of the ball (BSmith, DColeman, DRevis and CStuckey) in the last two seasons? Let me put this another way: who do you want in the slot for the Jets next year: Justin McCareins or Troy Brown?
We should also sign Ryan Yarbourgoh, Wendell Davis and Alex Van Dyke. They are about troy Browns age.
I would much rather have McCareins at this point. I'm not a big fan, but he would bring about the same amount of production to the table with more speed. Actually, I think Brown would give us less production. I don't think we're in that bad shape at the WR position right now. If a big time receiver like Keyshawn Johnson is available to us, hell yeah, but all these third rate receivers being thrown out there is annoying. Why get rid of a guy who knows the system (Shottenheimer (sp?)) for someone that isn't any better or even worse? Doesn't make sense to me. Unless we're making a big upgrade, let McCareins do his thing while Brad Smith continues to learn the position. We could do worse for a 3rd WR.
Geeez... not a lot of love for Troy Brown around here. I know the guy is long in the tooth, but I would rather have him on the field in 2007 instead of McCariens. For at least a year he would be a good pick up in terms of his knowledge of New England and the ability to mentor some young talent.
Yeah, McCareins is a flat resource. And he has nothing to offer the team in terms of mental preparation for a championship grind. I think Brown is also somewhat flat physically but there's a reason he's the guy Belichik goes to when he needs a miracle. He reminds me a little bit of Otis Smith in terms of the presence that he brings on the field. It's way out of proportion to his actual talent.
Good comparison. I would agree. He's the New England example of Chrebet, except I would consider Troy a bit more multi dimensional.
he can mentor and give the Jets inside info on what goes on in NE. I'd sign him to 1 yr deal... hes good depth and he still gets open.
more like he would never play for anyone besides NE...it just wont happen bellicheck has said brown will always have a place on the team..so he can re-sign if he wants to keep playing and at this point in his career...contributing as a 5th guy is all he could do or want to do
