Dont get me wrong. I love all the moves we have been making lately, but I still would like to see a decent receiver be picked up by us. (At first I wish we would of kept our two 2nd round picks and gotten a decent young receiver, but I am fine with what we did). 4th rounder for Moss? 4th rounder for D. Jackson? I really wish we could of made a play for one of these guys. I know we didn't have a 4th rounder but we could of done something, I am sure. I love Coles and Cotchery, but I do worry about Coles breaking down. He is a tough player, but..............he is bound to go down sooner or later. Cotchery is going to be a very good receiver for us. I do also like Brad Smiths versatility, but remember he is new to the position. Maybe we can pick someone up after the June 1 cuts. What do you guys think? Go Jets!!!! :jets:
I like the guy we picked up in the 7th round, and I believe Coles, Cotch and Smith are a good 1-2-3. I believe that Coles will breakdown eithe rby the end of this year, or next. We need to assume that Cotchery will be ready to be our #1 when that time comes, and I believe he will be. Smith will probably always be a #3, so we're going to to need to figure out what we're going to do about a #2 at that point. We'll tackle that hurdle when we come to it though
I think Brad Smith can get better. And who knows? Maybe J-Mac will come into camp this year in shape and ready to contribute. Either way, I'm really not too thrilled with Randy Moss or Darrel Jackson, especially considering their performances over the last 2 seasons. I'll take development of young players over those guys.
We're pretty weak at WR, I agree. We do not have a gamebreaker to help open up underneath. Coles is a #2 at best in my opinion. Cotchery is up and coming. He's not a #1 yet, but the potential is there. McCareins... I like him, but he hasn't shown much. The others really just don't matter, they do not catch too many balls.
I don't see any problems with our recieving core. Coles a #2, did you see his stats last season? He led the AFC for the first several games and ended up with a last-minute invite to the Pro Bowl. Cotchery will only improve, J-Mac may actually live up to his contract (at least he's tall and fast, even if he does drop more than he catches, he's still a threat to spread defenses.) and a year of practice at the position for Smith, who basically redshirted last year. Oh, and a speedy deepthreat now in Stuckey. The one thing that is making me a little POed is that we still have Baker as our TE. I believe we need a TE, the recievers are fine.
Coles is definitely a #1 WR. Last year he had 1098 recieving yards. That was good enough for 13th in the league, better than Javon Walker, Marquis Colston, TJ Houz, and Burress amongst others. Cotchery had 961 yards, 22nd in the league. The only teams that had a better 1-2 punch were Cinci, Indi, Det, StL, and Dal. Each of these two guys at 6 recieving TDs. Those are not stats to scoff at. Coles and Cotch are a great 1-2 punch. It is the depth behind them that we are lacking. Brad Smith at this point is nothing more than a 4th WR. JMac is our 3rd. I hope he can fill that role, but I have my doubts.
While I'm a big believer Coles is going to drop off big, I love Brad Smiths upside, he has No. 1 potential and Cotch is solid. The Pats are also likely to cut several WR in camp which will put us in postion to pick up some depth right off our rivals roster.
were def thin at WR...i dont think theres much denying that. we may be able to pick up a stop gap guy for a year after the round of cuts on 6/1....
J-mac will have to agree to a huge cut to stay. I think he's on the books for over 3 million this year. In any event, he was open a lot last year and Chad just missed him. Don't know if he ran the wrong pattern but he was consistently open.
KEY Available!!!! Guess who just released Keyshawn and guess who he's speaking with. It's not GreenBay!
Stuckey might be what we need to burn corners and get down the field quickly which would open up routes for Cotchery and Coles. Brad Smith is a all around athlete who still has time to come around as a WR. I know there are still a lot of moves to be made before the season starts but I do not think we are in trouble in the position at all. I would like to see another TE get picked up as well even though Baker had a good year last year. We did not have that strong of a running game last year, Jones will change that, which will open up the pass. Get Excited Jets Nation..the best is yet to come...!!
Stuckey probably has just as far to go to be a bigtime receiver as Smith does. Smith is a better athlete and a better football player, Stuckey is a very good athlete with slightly more receiving experience, but even he hasn't been a WR too long.
Now that would be something but I think he'll want to much money but I still like him at #3 over Smith for now. If we signed him that would spell the end for J-Mac.
I think we lack a true home run hiter, but part of this is because of the style of plays that Schott has called in due to Chad Pennington's lack of arm strength. I'd just like to see more deep balls thrown and caught by some 6'4" freak athlete, which the Jets WR corp lacks. Other then that, we're OK, not really thin or weak, but it's not an amazing group either.
Coles is not a #1 receiver. He doesn't put fear in anyone, and can be removed from the game easily by the D. Sorry, stats do nothing for me when trying to prove something. Show me on the field how many times COLES CHANGED THE GAME. Once? Twice maybe?
