Why did we do this for Bush last season?

I don't think you have a case about Bush. The saints wanted way too much.

My gripe last year was about letting Very, Very talented players go for backup safetys and Olinemen. Im happy knowing that if we did last years draft again we aren't wasting picks. We should have never picked Ferguson and Mangold.

I still don't get the point. Brick hasn't disprove his major knocks heading into the NFL of lack of bulk, not being a physical run blocker and the tendency to get beat on inside moves because he overplays the outside. Unlike Bush, Brick had the opportunity. We did not trade for him; that's fine but I hate when people act as if how it all unfolded was the only way that would have led to success. Not only is that stupid; it completely undermines our coaching staff. It can be argued that the Jets had one of the most talent deprived rosters in the league. Our coaching did the most with what they had. If we had Bush and a 2nd tier OT and Center combination, I'm sure they would have done the same, (the most with what they had).

    You are joking, right?

Mangold was lauded as being one of the best rookies last year.

I was thrilled with how last year's draft worked out personally, but in the spirit of this thread, you could also ask why we didn't trade up to take Vince Young with the 3rd pick. He would have probably cost much, much less and we had no idea whether Chad could ever play again, much less a full year or taken Leinhart at 4. That would have cost nothing.

I didn't say I wouldn't take Mangold. To come right out and say it, I would not have picked Da Brick........ They should have traded out of the 4th pick.

Last years draft was one of the best ones in NFL history. This years draft was average at best. A 1st rounder in last years draft holds way more value than one in this years.

So... in order to grab Reggie Bush (who didn't even start full time last year anyway) you get to give up:

    D'Brickashaw Ferguson
    Nick Mangold
    Leon Washington

... this on top of this year's 1st rounder. Of course, that means, since there is just no humanly possible way to protect Chad with whatever rubbish they had at OL, it's another top 10 pick for NO.

Gee, I thought Matt Millen was dumb. Looks like I struck a gold this time around!

No, they certainly were not. One could also easily make the argument that D'Brick was outplayed by other rookie tackles last season (mainly Marcus McNeil), but I'd rather take the top rated OT, that the jury is still out on, and a soon to be Pro-Bowl center than a running back that the jury is still out on.

It's all just a matter of what you believe is the best way to build a team....from the inside out, or with 1 big name player. I am the former.

LOL...I love the word play here, building a team from "the inside out" or with "1 big name player". Why can't the latter be the "outside in" theory. Having Bush does not mean that we would line up every Sunday with Bush and nobody else. I'm very happy with Ferguson and Mangold but I know I would have been equally happy with Bush and a couple of second tier linemen. The funny thing I don't think they would have been too many Jets fans unhappy if they traded for Bush. If I remember correctly the cheers I heard during the time the Jets and Saints were in talks were not "D'Brickashaw, D'Brickashaw D'Brickashaw" but "Reggie, Reggie Reggie".

Just to move down 2 spots we would have had to give up pretty much our whole draft. No D'Brick, Mangold, Clemens, maybe no Leon or Brad Smith.

The value of 2 to 4 is much greater then 14 to 25.

HAHAHAHAHAHA I actually contemplated using "outside in", but thought that the "one big name player" was a bit more descriptive and would not get lost in the shuffle.

As on of the posters after your comment stated, we would have had to practically given up our entire draft to get Bush, which would have left little room to draft even second teir linemen.

The price tag on Bush would have proved to be too much. Truthfully I'm happier with an offense of Jones/Washington along with Ferguson and Mangold on the line then I would be with Bush. Tanny and Mangini wanted to build the o-line, and in my opinion they laid down a great foundation. Mangold was a beast and aside from the Buffalo game D-Brick had a nice season and I fully expect him to grow more into his left tackle role in his softmore campaign.

I'm glad we did this for Bush last season. He is so much better than Revis.

This thread needed to be bumped just in case anyone still gave #1 Jets Fan any credibility.
