This thread is to keep track of John Maine for when he becomes the NL Cy Young winner at the end of the 2007 season. 4-0 - 1.35 ERA BABY!
SHHHH!!! We can only talk about how SLAPPY is hitting lots of home runs for the last place Yankees! Don't you read the back pages of the Post and News! Slappy IS the story in New York Sports!!
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2300779 Remember all the "traded Kris Benson for a nobody and a bag of balls" talk back when this deal went down? So much for Heilman starting though Edit: here's a great article from Fox Sports about how the deal went down. And how much of a genius Omar is. Read the whole thing, its good. http://community.foxsports.com/blog...That_Look_Worse_Now_The_Julio_For_Benson_Swap
Absolutely - at least get the thread title changed to "John Maine watch 2007" or something - this title is demanding divine retribution from the karma gods.
Remember Jae Seo. I like Maine but I don't think we/the league has seen enough of him to say if he's going to be good for awhile.
He'll fall to earth soon. He's getting lucky on the balls he allows in play, he's walked 18 guys, his HR is ridiculously row for his history and the amount of flyballs he allows. He'll probably end the year with an ERA around 3.5, which is good in todays offensive game.
I have the power to prevent jinxes  The Maine Train doesn't need anything getting in his way!
Ok much better title for this thread, now I can post in it.. Maine has been unbelievable, a sign of a great pitcher was his last outing when he didn't have his best stuff but still managed to pitch a great game. I understand he won't pitch to a 1.37 era all year but he won't crash back to earth either as some have mentioned. He has been a great starter for the Mets from his first start, including playoffs. It is time for him to get the credit he deserves & I have to say the Benson trade is turning out to be one hell of a trade, gotta be up there as far as best trades in Mets history.
this season AROD>entire mets lineup. clutch ability JETER>mets lineup. stats and accolades clemens>entire mets rotation.
who has had more clutch hits jeter alone vs the mets lineup right now? arod has more homers and RBI and other stats too than any met in your lineup. clemens has more cy youngs then all of your pitchers combined, not to mention more strikeouts than any pitcher you have or wins for that matter. note: i only combined the cy youngs not the wins or strikeouts.
