Looking ahead, if Mangini can ask a WR to play DB, then is it possible that Mangini will ask Justin Miller to burn down the sidelines as a "deep threat wide receiver" (if only a decoy), plus kick offs and dime DB? How many here would be surprised if Justin Miller lined up next to Brad Smith on a 5-wide sometime this seaons? I would only be surprised if CP actually thru a deep slant to Miller and he caught it. But seriously, Miller is just too fast with far too much talent to ride the pine waiting for the other team to score. If you were the Penguin, what would you do to maximize Miller's game breaking speed?
PLay him at FS. He plays better facing the line of scrimmage. Rhodes is the SS & Miller is the FS.
He fumbles enough kickoff returns/ punt returns. We don't need more fumbilitis in our WR crew. Don't get me wrong, he is a great example of a guy who could play receiver, but has no hands, and instead plays.......CB. I like his explosive speed, he actually just needs to slow down. I think this will come with experience.
Sounds stupid to me. I'd like him to learn how to play the position he's best suited to play before I give him extra duties.
terrible idea... i dont mind teaching him to catch though....maybe a punt his 0 career interceptions are nice too...maybe he can catch one of those first
There is nothing wrong with getting a great returner and an adequate nickel back DB with a second round pick.
Too valuable as a kick returner to trade...just look at what hes done for us already and what guys like Hester do for the Bears. We need him on special teams and I still think he can play nickel
this post is what worries me a bit about jet fans expectations. shotty is a great o-coordinator. he took what he had and made the best out of the situation with gimicks and so on. there is a point though where you can become too tricky. we have enough of a mutliple threat in brad smith, miller needs to learn how to play db which at the end of the year i felt he was starting to understand more and more. teach him how to be a nickle, let revis play opposite dyson and lets see if barrett stays on, we all know poteat is going to stay as a player/coach. miller is a great kr, he had/has potential to be a very solid cb which is why we took him 2nd round two years ago.
Apperently the Bears think a returner can be valuable enough guy to draft in the second round..... (He's an even worse corner than Justin)
Miller fumbled twice in one game in his rookie season and you along with a few others act like he does it every time. Then I guess going to the pro bowl as a KR means he fumbles all the time. Miller should get a shot and if any of you Miller haters actually watched him when he did play last year you'd see that he has improved and is good enough to be a solid backup or even a starter.
Miller still has some Raw talent. Not all guys can just come in and take over a position. Some even take longer to develop. With proper mentoring, i can see Miller with Revis as our future CBs.
I'm not a Miller hater. I saw him muff a couple of punts and fumble a few returns. I think he has the potential to be a great corner, but no receiver.
