Will it be 2007's Joe Thomas, drafted by the Cleveland Browns? (3rd Overall)

    Or

Will it be 2006's D'Brickashaw Ferguson, drafted by the New York Jets? (4th Overall)

I am just wondering what this board thinks of both players.

I do not know much about Joe Thomas, so I would like people's input.

On this board, I am sure people will be partial to DBrick, but I would like reasons.

I think Brick's (much) longer wingspan helps him in the long run, but Thomas has a bigger immediate impact because right now he's a more complete package. I think Brink hits the weight room heavily over the next few seasons though and will eventually be better than Thomas.

I prefer Thomas because he's a little bigger and can hold the weight more.

No question both are good to go that high, but I was wondering who the board thought was better in the long run and I like the input so far.

Joe Thomas' immediate impact is important I would say.

I'd say so as well. However, Brick was always going to be more developmental. However, he's physically a beast and has the frame to hold a load more muscle if he gets into the right weight room habbits and has the physical build and footwork to be the best tackle in the league. Thomas is more of a safe pick who will come into the league being in the top half of LT's, but has a lower ceiling than Brick.

Pennington played 17 games, gotta think DBrick helped with that.

Except the Mario Williams play. Yikes!

  7. Ferguson will be the better pass protector and maybe a pro bowler more often, Thomas will be the better all around player.

D'Brick is a different kind of LT being more athletic. The main reason we have him is to counter Jason Taylor and the other undersized speed rushers coming off the corners. Thomas is more prototypical and solid. Two different kind of players, Ferg for passing Thomas for running.

I think Ferguson has better footwork. If you were watching NFl networks film of Thomas he has a lot of holes in his game. I really don't know how Thomas will turn out but I personally think Ferg played very well for a first year tackle and think as years go by he will continue to improve and become one of the better LT's in the league.

obviously there's a bias posting this question on a Jets forum

but I think till be Fergy for no other reason than his pass protection is better. THe guys on TV were talking about how good THomas will make their run game, but I'm under the impression a LT is supposed to be more of a pass protector. Brick.

You're right for the most part. The guards and center are the biggest components of the interior running game, with the tackles only making a huge difference on outside runs.

Both players are great, no doubt about it.

Pennington and Quinn should be happy. :)

Last year I had Marcus McNeill as the better LT over D'Brick. And I feel that Joe Thomas will be a better LT than D'Brick. The only reason I have both of them ahead of D'Brick is because they both play with a nasty streak that dominant LT's have to succeed for the long haul. Both players don't have as many question mark's as D'Brick and they both can come in and play now and in the long haul. Also remember, Marcus McNeill has one Pro-Bowl under his belt and D'Brick is still to be determined down the line.
Either way, with the 14th pick in the 2007 NFL Draft the JETS select CB Darrelle Revis from Pitt.
