Im only gonna do the 1st round but il probably put up another one right before the draft with three rounds. Here it goes... 1. Houston Texans - Reggie Bush, RB, USC -While they don't need him both their fans and the media would tear them a new one if they didn't make this pick. Trading down is still a possibility but it's looking more and more likely that they'l just stay tight and take Bush. 2. New York Jets (via NO) - Matt Leinart, QB, USC -The Jets trade the #4 pick, their 3rd rounder, and next years second rounder for a chance to grab the best QB in the draft. A proven winner, Leinart will work under Pennington until either Pennington gets hurt or he is ready to take over the starting job. 3. Tennesee Titans - Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt -With Leinart off the board the Titans take who they feel is the second best QB in the draft. Young is also a possibility but I have a feeling that Chow would rather work with a pocket passer who's ready to start now rather than wait for Young to develop his skills. 4. New Orleans Saints (via NYJ) - AJ Hawk, LB, Ohio State -Since the QB position has been filled, the Saints trade down and grab some extra picks while still getting the man they were coveting all along. LB is a huge need for the Saints and Hawk will be a leader on that defense for years. 5. Green Bay Packers - Mario Williams, DE, NC State -While they probably would liked to have drafted Hawk here the Packers are more than happy with Williams, the best DE prospect since (and perhaps even better than) Julius Peppers. 6. San Fransico 49ers - D'Brickashaw Ferguson, OT, Virginia -They certainly have many needs and could always trade down, the 9ers end up taking the big tackle who will be able to offer Alex Smith some better protection. 7. Oakland Raiders - Vince Young, QB, Texas -Dropping out of the top 5, Al Davis doesn't pass up the opportunity to pick up a national champion. He still needs a couple of years before he can start in the NFL, and the Raiders will have him behind Andrew Walter or Tuiasosopo on the depth chart, at least for next year. 8. Buffalo Bills - Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon -Replacing the big man Sam Adams is the most dominating DT in the draft. 9. Detroit Lions - Michael Huff, DB, Texas -They certainly could use some help in the secondary and Huff provides just that. A true playmaker, the Lions will probably put him at safety but could use him at corner too if they want too. 10. Arizona Cardinals - Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland -It would have been nice if a top 3 QB had dropped here, but the Cardinals do the next best thing by taking the speed freak and giving Warner yet another amazing target to throw to. 11. St. Louis Rams - Jimmy Willaims, DB, Virginia Tech -The Rams need all the help in the secondary they can get. 12. Cleveland Browns - Brodrick Bunkley, DT, Florida St. -With McGinest the Browns don't need a LB as much anymore. 13. Baltimore Ravens - Chad Greenway, LB, Iowa -Ray Lewis ain't getting younger so they grab a LB for the future. 14. Phildelphia Eagles - Santonio Holmes, WR, Ohio St. -He may be a reach but fills a big need with Owens out. 15. Atlanta Falcons - Tamba Hali, DE, Penn St. -RB is a possibility here too but the Falcons decide to fill a huge hole instead. 16. Aquamarine Fishies - Winston Justice, OT, USC -They pick up a tackle to help protect Daunte's weak legs. 17. Minnesota Vikings - DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis -How did he fall this far? The Vikings are ecstatic that they pick up an elite runner this late in the draft. 18. Dallas Cowboys - Chad Jackson, WR, Florida -This could change if they end up signing Owens. 19. San Diego Chargers - Ko Simpson, DB, South Carolina -The Bolts need a safety badly. 20. Kansas City Cheifs - Tye Hill, CB, Clemson -Herm needs some desperate help on that defense. 21. New England Patsies - LenDale White, RB, USC -Dillon is getting old and Kevin Faulk isn't the answer. 22. Denver Broncos - Mathais Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College -Could change if they deal for Abraham (provided they keep the pick). 23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Eric Winston, OT, Miami -They need some help on that line. 24. Cinncinati Bengals - Leonard Pope, TE, Georgia -A good target for Palmer to throw to. 25. New York Giants - Sinorice Moss, WR, Miami -They don't need a CB anymore so they grab a speedy WR to compliment Plaxico. 26. Chicago Bears - Marcus McNeil, OT, Auburn -Da Bears could use a good tackle on that line. 27. Carolina Panthers - Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota -Davis is gone and Foster is still injury prone. 28. Jacksonville Jaguars - Manny Lawson, OLB, NC State -The Jags could use his speed and versatility to bolster their already strong defense. 29. Denver Broncos(via WAS) - Darnell Bing, DB, USC -A great safety to replace Lynch. 30. Indianapolis Colts- Joseph Addai, RB, LSU -They reach but replace James. A trade up for a better RB is also a possibility. 31. Seattle Seahawks - Ernie Sims, LB, Florida St. -A steal at this point in the draft the Seahwaks are also able to fill a slight need. 32. Pittsburgh Steelers - Donte Whitner, DB, Ohio St. -After losing Hope the champs pick up another great safety. Thoughts???
No way our front office trades up. We have so many needs in the draft and to give up 4 picks in the next 2 drafts to get a qb who has a weak arm, a very slow deliberate delivery and has played with the best players in college makes little or no sense. And if Leinart is a bust, we've blown 4 picks along with 25 million+ in salary to a qb whose never taken a snap in the nfl. NO THANKS
It's a good mock, chadwick, but IMO there's no way Hawk will go higher than Super Mario and Duke Davis If that trade was made and the first three picks fell as written, which is very possible, I think the Saints will take Mario Williams or Vernon Davis and the Packers will take the other guy {the one the Saints didn't take} ... then I can see Hawk to the Niners ... at that point the Bills will be choosing between Ngata, Brick and Vince Young
Not necessarily. Hawk ran a 4.38 40 which is insane for a LB... AND he was the most dominant defensive player in college football last year. He is a workout warrior and a proven player... and I see no knock on him because he is just a pure, natural football player. Hawk should go in front of both Mario and Davis. As for the mock- I think if NO makes this deal then they are in desperation to trade down and it would be great value for the Jets. I like Leinart and he's the only QB in this draft that I really want... I like this mock a lot and all of the picks make sense. Although, I believe Nick Mangold should go at 32 for sure.
There's no way the Saints take Mario Williams over Hawk, they need an OLB BADLY and already have two very good young ends in Smith and Grant. That was the reason they were willing to let Howard walk and finally end their DE dilemmna. They wouldn't take a DE again when that's one of the few things they don't need.
So you changed it from "What are you talking about?" to "Not necessarily." Backing down from Jabba huh? j/k
Donnie may be right ... I mis-spoke when I said "no way" I don't think Hawk will go higher than Mario and Davis based on value, but it's possible and Donnie makes a good case
I don't think it's so insane that Hawk goes before Williams. And I would be shocked if Davis went before either one of them. But think about it, if the Saints have the pick, why wouldn't they take Hawk? They aren't in the market for a DE or a TE. So what's so weird about the Saints, who are weak at LB, taking the best one in college football? I think you really overhype players with good combines; It was Matt Jones last year and Vernon Davis this year.
Not backing down I just didn't want to sound too harsh... I understand Jabba is well respected and pretty smart when it comes to the NFL draft so I would like to discuss our difference in opinion instead of bashing him over it.
Thanks donnie, same here ... I repesct your opinion and if we happen to disagree I will do so politely
Vernon Davis has been the consensus #1 TE for months based on performance, his workouts have only raised his stock as it should when a 6' 3-6"/263 Pound TE runs in the 4.3's and dazzles the scouts with his athletcism and strength in every single drill As for Matt Jones, I believe I was the first to inform the board he would be a first round pick ... I beat mort and all others that I am aware of to the punch ... and mostly I was called nuts for suggesting Matt Jones would be a 1 when I first made that proclomation ... and then he went in RD 1 That doesn't make me a genius .. like everyone else, I get some wrong and I get some right, but I was ahead of the curve on Jones .. and if you wanna write him off after his rookie season, first year ever at wide receiver, be my guest, but I would suggest you proceed with caution because the Jags remain excited about his potential, and for good reason .. as a rookie, who never played WR in his life, and was used only as a 3rd/4th WR, he caught 36 passes for 432 Yards with 5 TD's
